1. The only way MS could catch up in tablets is if they sold them for a dollar
and I think I would still save my money for a proper android tablet.

Gates said a long time ago that the PC era was not permanent. We are witnessing the beginning of the end. Some of us will always need computers to do the work we do but for many a smartphone or tablet will meet every computing (email web browsing) need they have.
