that SS and Medicare are on the table for cuts to lower the deficit.

Obama Aide On Social Security Cut Story: It 'Overshoots The Runway'

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration is pushing back against a Wednesday night report that the president is prepared to offer cuts to Social Security as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

"The story overshoots the runway," said a senior administration official. "The President said in the State of the Union that he wanted a bipartisan process to strengthen Social Security in a balanced way that preserves the promise of the program and doesn't slash benefits."

.......

"There is no news here," Carney said. "The President has always said that while social security is not a major driver of the deficit, we do need to strengthen the program and the President said in the State of the Union Address that he wanted to work with both parties to do so in a balanced way that preserves the promise of the program and doesn't slash benefits."

This is BS, SS has ZERO to do with the deficit. It is not a major, minor or any kind of driver of the deficit. It is a totally separate fund and should not even mentioned in the same sentence as the Deficit.

Confusing the debate even more are the political implications of putting Social Security or any other entitlement reform at the heart of debt-ceiling negotiations

Why has this WH not made clear what everyone knows, these programs, especially SS, have ZERO to do with the deficit, the debt or the debt ceiling.

The words used here will NOT calm anyone down. That they are even being mentioned at all regarding the debt/deficit, and now the attempt to calm things down while still making the claim in a vague way, is absolutely wrong for any Democratic Administration.
