I have interesting first hand experience with this, I was interviewed about a bankruptcy proceeding and I refused to be quoted as having said that an adversarial proceeding in the given case was an accusation of fraud. So if by magic I was transformed into an anonymous source quoted as saying the very statement I refused to have attributed to me along with all my other comments unchanged.

The first rule of dealing with the media is: "The media makes shit up."

Strauss Kahn et-al has never deviated from their position he has an alibi.
