I don't believe that this story happened, but it's the narrative of some people on other liberal sites like The Huffington Post (not DU; DU is for Democrats so I am not trying to divide them by pointing this out because we're all on the same side and vote for Democrats).

1. Some (not all) professional left and left-wing splinterists equate Republicans and Democrats.
2. Acting on that belief, they stay home and let some Democrats in close districts lose in 2010.
3. Some (not all) professional left and left-wing splinterists (not on DU, but other sites like The Huffington Post) celebrate Democratic losses.*
4. Obama and the rest of the Democrats then have a weakened position to negotiate and have lost majority in the House of Representatives.
5. Republicans get more of what they want regarding Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid due to the weakened position.
6. More people threaten to go back to step #2 and do it over again, this time even threatening to vote against or not vote for President Obama (not on DU, but other sites like The Huffington Post).

OK then.
