3. I'm Going To Be More Optimistic Than You On This..... |

There are jobs out there. There might not be a job currently for every person that is unemployed and/or looking for a job - but there are jobs. If we can get some people hired and working - other jobs will follow.
I know of a manufacturing company that currently has 14 positions open. They are having a problem finding qualified applicants. So in this case matching people with available jobs would be helpful. I also think that the jobs that are available might be in other areas of the U.S. I think getting people and companies together - knowing where the jobs are and the people are would be a benefit of such a telethon.
In the Jerry Lewis Telethon - once people get in the spirit of the telethon - hear the stories - see the tote board total going up - seeing donations coming in - they reach into their wallets and donate as well. I think the same kind of thing could happen with a jobs telethon. Companies and people watching will see the value in maybe offering a job sooner rather than later because they might sense that if such a thing would catch on - it could be good for the economy.
The more people that get matched up with jobs and land jobs - the more the economy will be tweaked and more jobs will follow. I really believe this and I'm not being Pollyannish about this. People that start to earn a living - start feeling good about themselves. They feel more apt to go to a movie; eat at a restaurant; buy some clothes; buy an appliance; etc. All those things stimulate the economy. Sales tax. More need to make more clothes, more appliances, etc - so I have to hire more people to do that. Having a job will also mean that they are again paying income taxes; paying in to Social Security. If they feel comfortable with buying a house - more property taxes.
I'm sorry but we have to begin somewhere. If it takes a telethon such as this to get things going - then so be it. It is at least an attempt to do something about jobs versus what we are currently doing - nothing. Just jockeying for position in Washington D.C.
