2. From articles I've read regarding the tsunami doing the damage..
It was the huge EARTHQUAKE that disabled the nuclear plants first beore the tsunami hit and finished the job.
The massive amount of water piping that delivers the cooling water was destroyed. So even if they had been able to get power going to run the pumps, the broken piping would not have been able to deliver it.
They were screwed from the earthquake from the "get-go".
If you build nuclear plants on known earthquake faults, you can expect a problem. Not IF, but WHEN.
And there's many more nuke plants in Japan that are sitting on EARTHQUAKE prone real estate.
Freakin' time bombs.
