178. ALEC blocking municipal broadband in North Carolina
Link to jayfish's topic about the legislation to block municipal broadband:

The news story he linked to:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/03/cable-backed-anti-muni-broadband-bill-advances-in-north-carolina.ars

My reply in that topic, explaining ALEC's involvement (reply 3):

Link to the May 2010 FAIR article on the background of ALEC's opposition to municipal broadband -- "Big Media and State Lawmakers, Unite! (ALEC fights to keep broadband in private hands)" -- which explains how ALEC "has been working to ensure that control of the information superhighway remains in the hands of a few very powerful corporations."
