Ohio Counties End Official Ballot Counts
CLEVELAND - Ohio counties finished certifying votes in the presidential race Wednesday, and the results showed that election officials accepted about 77 percent of the provisional ballots that were cast.

Ohio's 88 counties reported validating 121,598 provisional ballots from 156,977 checked, according to an Associated Press tabulation. The deadline for counties to certify election results was Wednesday.

Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell plans to certify the final result Monday.

1. Is this standard procedure or another Blackwell red flag?
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 09:16 PM by Verve
"Carlo LoParo, a spokesman for Blackwell's office, said there will be no available breakdown of how many provisionals went to Bush or Kerry. He said the final tally will be inclusive of all votes."

Are they hiding info by not breaking down the provisional ballot counts for each county? Isn't this information supposed to be public knowledge?

2. Tomorrow - suit filed with Ohio Supreme Court...
Meanwhile, a lawyer representing at least 25 voters who feel their right to vote was violated said he would file a lawsuit Thursday directly to the Ohio Supreme Court. Cliff Arnebeck said the case will seek to document that election abuses in Ohio were widespread.

Cliff Arnebeck, I read in an article on FreePress.org is a lawyer with Common Cause. I think that is good news.

Can the recount still change the results after the state has 'certified' or is the hope that if the recounts go for Kerry even after certification the electors will vote for Kerry?

3. The recount can still change results.
The Bush electors won't change their votes ... they're elected as a slate for Bush. But it's possible under state law, as I understand it from the attorneys, for the state to be required to replace them with Kerry electors.
