Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, announced details of the event Wednesday, including the musical performers at the Capitol and who will administer the oaths.

William H. Rehnquist, chief justice of the United States, will swear in President Bush and Hastert will do the same for Cheney. Rehnquist had sworn in Cheney four years ago.

Guy Hovis, a vocalist from Tupelo, Miss., who performed on the Lawrence Welk show, will sing, “Let the Eagles Soar,” a song written by Attorney General John Ashcroft.

The congressional committee received $1.25 million for the ceremony. A separate Presidential Inaugural Committee is raising some $40 million to cover the cost of the parade, the nine official inaugural balls and candlelight dinners with the president and vice president for major donors.

I work in DC, on Pennsylvania Avenue too, about 6 blocks from the White House. Reading this, all I can say is that I am sooooo glad that I have booked annual leave for that entire week and will not have to deal with these jerks and the Republiclones that will be coming in for the inauguration.

Oh man, talk about rubbing it in. It's actually pretty hilarious. Very painful, but hilarious. Uh, and in case anyone is wondering, no, these guys are definitely not Ashcroft fans. Their first tune on that record is entitled "All the Assholes are Heroes Now."

i was just thinking that myself, every president and staff we've had have been somewhat silly looking, but bushco takes the cake...bush's photo ops are horrible, and always produce some very strange or demonic images...why can't we have a normal person be president?

I am quick to point out to everyone that the 40 million being spent on the inauguration would put a lot of men and women through rehab, provide medical and educational opportunities, and help them restart their lives instead lying in a bed in a ward waiting. Or maybe we could protect our men and women by making sure they have the equipment they need.

The Iraqis are suffering also. They have lost everything, family, homes, water, electricity, sanitation, the list is so long.
