After 4 decades, Democrats regain legislative control

After a four-decade shutout, Democrats return to power Wednesday, controlling the Senate and House in a historic legislative session brimming with possibilities and personalities.

Numbers tell the story:

Democrats will have a 35-30 majority in the House and an 18-17 edge in the Senate.

It's almost too much for former lawmaker Wayne Knox to fathom. The Denver Democrat, who served 32 years in the House, was first elected in 1960. That was the last time Democrats won both the House and the Senate until the 2004 election. "I had given up," said Knox, now 77. "I mean, hope springs eternal and all that, but I didn't think it was ever going to happen."

The new Democratic leadership looks at home in a ’61 Corvette, which was the last year the party took control of both houses at the Colorado State Capitol. I suspect that there might be some lessons that could be learned in other states.

This state has been in terrible shape economically. People were desperate for change. So when we worked locally, they welcomed that change.

We also got a Dem elected in the U.S. Senate--something that had been missing for a long time.

...I realize how good we got it hear in Colorado. Plus Hickenlooper in Denver ain't bad either. :thumbsup:

Colorado is a red state for the twit, yet they install a dem majority in house & senate….it makes ya wanta scream…

of course, there's plenty of room to cheat on voting machines, the redistricting, absentee ballots, and LONG LONG distances with tiny little voting areas scattered around a HUGE area....

I live in Colorado and our repubs have trashed our state.
The lesson to learn, the public will only stand so much insanity... too bad the nation isn't at that level yet...

Seems he would have difficulty pushing any nutty trademark issue designed for his (potential) 2008 run.

You're really gonna upset some of the pessimist in this group. However we upbeat aggressive progressives look for and find the good news all the time.
