Benefit cuts in Social Security among solutions Bush will consider
http://www.duluthsuperior.com/mld/duluthsuperior/news/politics/10640321.htm

President Bush on Thursday set an accelerated, five-month timetable for overhauling Social Security, saying he will consider all recommendations - including a controversial move to cut benefits for future retirees. ...

And he said a range of options were on the table, including the idea that would tie checks for future retirees to price increases rather than the current system of linking Social Security checks to wage growth. ...

John Rother, lobbyist for AARP, said changing the way Social Security is calculated would involve "draconian cuts" for future retirees.

The change would leave seniors behind when wage growth creates a better standard of living by growing faster than prices. If the proposal, called indexing, had been used since the 1960s, seniors would now be getting checks of around $300 instead of $955 on average.

1. bush's plan has ALWAYS meant benefits cuts and/or increased taxes.
OR we COULD FULLY FUND social security INTO THE 22nd CENTURY for LESS THAN WE'RE SPENDING RIGHT NOW IN IRAQ.

OR bush's TEMPORARY TAX CUTS could be KEPT as TEMPORARY, instead of being made PERMANENT; making them permanent would cost THREE TO FIVE TIMES MORE than what's needed to fully fund SS.

It's a matter of PRIORITIES; bush's priorities are for his base; the HAVES & HAVE MORES. He doesn't give a damn about the rest of us.

2. I have written to both of my Sens and my Rep.
I can only hope that AARP learned its lesson last time when they supported Shrub and his drug bill. They lost a lot of members and a whole lot of money. They are against him on this one, and they have the biggest lobby in Wash.

I will continue to contact every source I know to defeat this insanity, and I sure hope you all do the same!

3. Ok folks we have to get started on the midterms NOW
otherwise this ship of fools will sink us all. It's only in knowing that we're going to kick as many asses as we can in two years that might curb their insanity a little.

5. Heard on Bill O'Liely
that Bush would not even consider cutting benefits (of course that was when Kennedy said that he could cut up to 33%).

7. This is something that basically affects everybody's
wallet. If these bastards try to cut benefits, party affiliation will suddenly cease to matter, and the chimp will have a mutiny on his hands.

People voted for the chimp because he promised to make them "safe, " not put them in the poorhouse during their "golden" years.

9. Gee what a surprise.
I also love the way they all couch their words with statements like....

"people 'near' retirement age".. LET'S HAVE A NUMBER, YOU IDIOTS!@!!

People who are 45 now?? 50?? 64.5??

A person who has teenaged kids heading off to college, and just happens to have a mortgage, car payment, and...um..... a LIFE will NOT be able to amass enough to live on in a 20 yr span. Anyone who understands math, can tell you that..

They just need to start cutting the military and slush-fund legislation, until the RE-PAY the money they have STOLEN from the Booomers for the last 40 years.. Everything will be hunky-dory then :)

19. But remember, boosh** refuses to "negotiate with himself"
So don't count on specifics for ANY of his grand schemes to be released to the Great Unwashed Masses.

That's his cutsey little trick. He plays "I Know Something I Won't Tell" until he HAS to divulge something. By then, it's too late to mount any organized opposition to it.

And the wankers who put him in office fall for it every time. They call it "principled leadership." :eyes:

11. I do not think countries that have done this have had good luck
I look at it this way. I have a fund and the people who run the fund take as much out of it as I get, plus it does grew, and it gives me about 1 and a half percent. It is a pretty big fund and I can do nothing about it, I have it locked in to a trust account so I will not spend the principal. Seemed like a good deal at the time. But I could do better to have dropped it into a saving accounts at the local banks. Be very sure you want this before you vote for it. My children will get the results of this, bank will take more than I get in costs and I am the old one that owns the GD thing.

15. Actually a good ad
... for people who want to fight this, might be an older person ripping open his Social Security envelope, and pulling out a check that reads $300.

16. By indexing benefits to LOWER benefits, they set up SS for Phase 2 ...
... of its destruction. It's deliberate.

The totally specious claim that "it's not worth it" because the benefits aren't worth the 'investment' is just given more ammunition. If the imbeciles who buy that 'argument' at current levels of projected benefits look at even lower benefits, then even more of their drool will be spewed in the form of foam.

This is, without a doubt, a war on the working class ... an unbridled, deliberate assault on Social Security with the sole purpose of destroying it and shoveling the spoils off to the investment banking industry.

17. June and Ward Clever LIVE!!!!!!
"I remember getting back to the White House and Laura said `What'd you say that for?' ... I didn't rehearse it. It just was there," Bush said. "I wouldn't call it regret, but it certainly is a lesson. ... You've got to be mindful of the consequences of the words.":bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
