Former Chilean dictator free to leave house during trial
Friday, January 14, 2005 Posted: 0115 GMT (0915 HKT)

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- Friends helped former dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet post bail so he can be released from house arrest during his trial for nine kidnappings and one homicide during his 1973-1990 regime, his lawyer said Thursday.

"With contributions from several people, we have been able to gather the money," Fernando Rabat said after delivering the 2 million Chilean pesos ($3,500) to the Santiago Court of Appeals. He did not identify any of the donors.

The 89-year-old former ruler is now free to leave his country estate southwest of Santiago, where he remained secluded for the last eight days. It was not known whether he was planning to go elsewhere.

Meanwhile, court officials said that Judge Sergio Munoz, who is investigating Pinochet's multi-million dollar secret accounts at foreign banks, was requesting information from banks in the United States, Switzerland, Spain and Luxembourg.

2. They should start a trial immediately, open to the people.
There should be a special court established to bring justice to the criminal fascists. As for Pinochet, he should meet the fate of certain other fascist leaders.

4. Why is Henry A. Kissinger keeping such a low profile these days?
....and hardly a word from CNN. I think this story deserves more air time than the garbage CNN bombards the mindless with 24/7.
