Not Always Diplomatic in Her First Major Post (Condi Rice)
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-me-rice16jan16,0,7216096,print.story?coll=la-home-headlines

She helped lead the nation to war and in the process became one of President Bush's closest friends and most intimate advisors.

But even before she headed the National Security Council, Condoleezza Rice held a job that required grit, skill, political savvy and a sublime degree of self-confidence: running Stanford University.

Her years as provost left a deep divide here on the elite Northern California campus, much as her polarizing performance as war counsel has defined her image nationally.

As the university's No. 2 administrator, Rice is widely credited with helping the school regain its footing during the 1990s after red ink and a financial scandal threatened to engulf it.

But critics say Rice was harsh, even ruthless, during her administration, the one time in her gilded career she has overseen a large institution. Improbably, the youngest provost in Stanford history and the first black and woman to hold the post helped prompt a Labor Department probe into the treatment of women and minorities.

1. Can't really speak for her days at Stanford --
-- but her gig at NSC sure sucked big time.

2. Accordng to Cable TV the question is
whether she'll shoot first or use diplomacy. Will she reject the Golden Rule and sacrifice our troops for military might or will she use the Golden Rule and diplomacy? She has never been a mother, does she even have an inkling of the pain of losing a child? Or does she even care. This woman has icewater in her veins.

I think if I were to ever meet her I'd have a clove of Garlic and a Cross on me.

3. She will advocate the war option.
In my opinion. There is something deeply sick about her. She is one of those people who desparately needs the approval of the highest levels of society. She will say or do whatever it takes to obtain that. Most of the Bush administration is the same.

5. She exhibits no warmth
I don't think she will ever be seen kissing babies. Sticking military dress on them is more her style.

9. Remember what her doctorate was in
Soviet studies.

There ain't no Soviets left, last time I checked. So why an expert on the Soviet Union? Shall we appoint an expert on the Battle of Agincourt to run Iraq?

13. Sounds like she's been in senior management
Senior management is difficult, as your public performance is viewed
by the loudest voices, whereas your bosses review is private to a small
community (boardroom).

Any manager who is hired to fire and cut costs will arouse rancor,
there's no way around it... and perhaps she was less than diplomatic,
as it seems all the republicans are authoritarian autarchs.

Frankly, between the lot of them, they could have done worse in
picking a secstate.
