Man Who Sneaks Into Inauguration Arrested

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - U.S. Capitol Police on Thursday arrested the man who sneaked into George W. Bush's first inauguration and was photographed shaking his hand.

Hours before Bush took the oath of office for a second time, Richard Weaver was taken into custody on the Capitol's west front on an outstanding warrant, police spokesman Michael Lauer said.

The warrant, charging Weaver with unlawful entry, involved a February 2003 prayer breakfast at a Washington hotel, which Bush attended and Weaver entered without a ticket, said John Whitefield, president of the Rutherford Institute of Charlottesville, Va. The institute is a civil liberties group that has provided legal help to Weaver in the past.

Weaver was photographed shaking Bush's hand and slipping him a coin and a note at his first inauguration in January 2001. Weaver pulled a similar stunt in 1997 at President Clinton's second swearing-in.

1. I was going to say

that it's pretty interesting how he's managed to consistently sneak into these events, until I read this:

Weaver claims to have shaken hands with every president since Gerald Ford, and considers himself a minister whose job is to tell presidents to follow God, said Whitefield.

And now I hope he spends a long time in jail.

2. Don't you think Bush will pardon a man of God??
He was kind enough to grant no pardon for Faye Tucker who was put to death even though she had repented of her sins for committing a couple of murders. Guess King George has more power than God.

3. Ummm, comic relief?
If this guy just wants to hold hands with the Commander in Chief, isn't this somewhat amusing? I understand the security stuff, but this guy just likes a quick hand shake and a note passing. This is like something you see on a satire political show.

I wonder what it says on the notes?

4. Where does this guy get off?
Doesn't he realize you have to pay $250,000.00 if you want to even touch the cloak of the God/King.
