NY Journalist Arrested for Harassing Mayor Bloomberg's Office

By The Associated Press
Published: January 22, 2005 1:00 PM ET

NEW YORK A journalist accused of making hundreds of harassing phone calls to Mayor Michael Bloomberg's press office was arrested Friday and charged with harassment, police said.

Investigators allege Christopher Brodeur, a writer for the alternative newspaper the New York Press and a fringe candidate for mayor, made 1,379 calls to the press office between Sept. 2 and Jan. 15.

In one recent call, Brodeur allegedly accused the press office and Bloomberg of lying to him and warned, ``You lie to me, you should thank the Lord that I didn't slice your throat.''

(snip)

``He's not a violent person,'' she said. ``He's a very passionate person. He truly believes the government is behaving in a corrupt way.''

2. Previously acquitted on similar charges:
In 1999, Brodeur was acquitted of criminal charges alleging he made more than 80 harassing and threatening telephone calls to then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's press office.

5. Yes, I'm wondering about that.
Too bad we so rarely get the truth about anything. I would like to know exactly what went on, but will we ever?

15. Ann Coulter
She advocates shooting people and yet she is still out on the streets. It even gets her more air time on FOX when she does. So I guess if you are a right wing malignant bitch it is OK to do this.

4. Brodeur's fringe, flaky, outrageous positions... my God, they make sense!
Free subways
Abolish the completely crooked MTA
Return mandatory bike lanes that double as emergency vehicle lanes
Residency law for all NYC cops
Single-payer electricity, telephone and sanitation
Require referenda for all city development projects (Jets Stadium, etc.)
Limit increases in lease renewals to 10%
Separate jury duty rolls from voter registration rolls
Public benches everywhere ("If you think senior citizens should stand and wait for the bus, vote Bloomberg.")
Make Election Day a municipal holiday
Adopt the Hevesi Plan: Reduce lawsuits against NYC by making municipal departments responsible and, if found guilty, culpable
Demolish the "Blue Wall of Silence" by incentivizing whistleblowing and protecting whistleblowers
Ban Presidential motorcades In NYC
Disband the corrupt Rent Guidelines Board

8. I like this guy's platform
And I'll bet the allegations are grossly exaggerated. He probably had to call 80 times to get an answer.

Our government? Acting in a corrupt way?

I am definitely NOT voting for Bloomberg.

13. Bloomberg is totally corrupt.
He's trying to railroad thru the reopenning of the 91st Street Garbage Dock and he is using it as a weapon to bisect one group of working class people from another. He always has the requisite public hearings over holiday seasons. He is trying to turn those in Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx against the "upper east side" but the neighborhood of Yorkville, while not racially diverse, is extremely working class. By reopenning this transfer station one block from a densely populated area he's deliberately causing increases in asthma, polution, pestilence. He just doesn't care because the mayor's mansion is two blocks from the proposed garbage dock, but he doesn't live there because he's too good, too uppa-uppa-claass, for the neighborhood that he's about to stink up.

He acts like he's a f__king king, f__king royalty. Frankly, Giulliani wasn't half as bad, not that he's a favorite but at least he was human, at least he cared about all his constituents, just the tyranny of the majority.

Screw Bloomberg, the corporate whore.
