Chicago Meat Warehouse Called 'amusement Park for Rats'
Guilty Verdicts in Case of Chicago Meat Warehouse Called 'amusement Park for Rats'
The Associated Press
Published: Jan 28, 2005

CHICAGO (AP) - A jury handed down guilty verdicts Thursday in the federal trial of a cold storage company accused of unsanitary conditions at a food warehouse described by prosecutors as "an amusement park for rats."
LaGrou Distribution System Inc. and its president, Jack Stewart, were convicted on all counts, said Randall Samborn, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office.

Stewart, 55, was accused of conspiring to cover up unsanitary conditions at the 500,000-square foot warehouse that supplied meat and other foods to stores and restaurants throughout the Chicago area.

A call to Stewart's attorney, Elliot M. Samuels, was not immediately returned Thursday night. A man who answered the company's phone said he could not comment and hung up. A telephone listing for Jack Stewart could not immediately be found.

Sentencing was set for May 26, Samborn said.

When the trial began last week, Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Sussman told jurors that "rodents were allowed to feast on an all-you-can eat buffet" at the warehouse.

3. I would have found them SO GUILTY
and that fine would be colossal.

Upton Sinclair wrote a book about stuff like this and the reaction was so profound that the FDA was created.

And now we are back at Square one.
