BUFFALO, N.Y. - Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton collapsed Monday during a speech in Buffalo and was taken to a local hospital.

Colleen DiPirro, president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, told WBEN radio station that the senator apparently wasn't feeling well and collapsed in the middle of her speech at the Saturn Club.

84. details
Buffalo radio station WBEN said the former first lady was checked out by an ambulance crew after collapsing during a speech at the Saturn club, one of Buffalo's most prestigious private clubs.

The station said Clinton still intends to deliver a speech scheduled for Monday afternoon at a college in Buffalo.

Colleen DiPirro, president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, tells WBEN that the senator apparently wasn't feeling well and collapsed in a middle of her speech.

During an earlier editorial board meeting at The Buffalo News, Clinton complained about suffering from a flu-like bug that affected several of her staff members during a weekend retreat in Westchester, where she and former President Bill Clinton live.

"Was there lightning involved?

Of course in my humor, I'm not celebrating ANYONE going through a medical problem. God will carry her through as He did with her husband. Perhaps the stress of re-inventing herself is getting to her but I wouldn't wish harm on anyone.",- Buster

Hillary is a SAINT - worked for NOBLE causes like taking care of EVERYBODY, while ronnie worshiped at the altar of greed and selfishness and entitlement.

Sen. Clinton Collapses During Appearance
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sen. Hillary Clinton (news - web sites) collapsed during an appearance here Monday before delivering a speech on Social Security (news - web sites).

Colleen DiPirro, president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce (news - web sites), told WBEN-AM radio that Clinton told the crowd she was feeling weak and had had a stomach virus. Clinton started to speak then collapsed, DiPirro told the radio station.

Clinton was scheduled to speak Monday at a Catholic college despite protests from anti-abortion groups and reluctance from the Catholic diocese. She was expected to discuss health care, not her pro-choice stance on abortion — the cause of the protesters' anger.

Several hundred people were waiting to hear that address. There were also hundreds of protesters waiting at the college

44. yes, that's what I was thinking, I've passed out twice from dehydration
from repeated vomiting and not being able to keep down even water, then the more dehydrated you get, the more nauseaous, viscious cycle. they'll probably give her a couple bags of fluid and hopefully something for the nausea, and order her to rest for the next couple days at least. I sure hope she wasn't hurt when she fell, though, just the impact jars the body!

I'm not one of the more savvy DUers, I haven't been here very long, but it seems like the Action items forum, doesn't get a lot of action!

We really should start tracking and posting Repuke events and organize counter protests.

State forums may be another place this could be done. I didn't protest Bush when he came to my state during the campaign because I was so busy volunteering FOR the campaign, but I certainly would now.

113. Amen... It gets too much media attention when public people
have normal ailments.. They really need to be careful .. Every station on earth has their "medical experts" tucked away on a shelf.. They are just waiting for face time on tv, so when a public person has a "human frailty" moment in public, they release the hounds and pretty soon we are treated to all kinds of rampant speculation.

It can actually weaken a public person a lot, and without too much of a stretch, they are perceived as "ill" or too "risky" to elect..

Tsongas was a prime example of why the media dogs politicians so much. The media always assumes a grave illness.

Pols would do themselves a favor, if they listened to their gut instincts. If they are not feeling well, they should stay home and rest up until they are better..

Before long we will probably hear that she has :

heart problems
cancer
stroke

Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 01:33 PM by American Tragedy
By the way, for the right-wing lurkers undoubtedly in our midst, I hope this doesn't cause you pleasure.

I can only speak for myself, not necessarily for other DUers, but I have never cheered for the illness or even the demise of a Republican. I couldn't stand Reagan, but as somebody whose grandmother died of Alzheimer's less than a year ago, I wouldn't wish his fate on my most hated enemy, and I felt very sorry for Nancy and the rest of his family.

That having been said, I'm sure Senator Clinton is fine.

61. Thank you, American Tragedy.
Some of my right-wing co-workers joked about Ron Brown and Wellstone on the days of the accidents.

The only sane thing to do is to express sympathy on the occasions where it's called for and try to suppress Schadenfreude at times when it's tempting to show it. I even felt sorry for Newt Gingrich when he had to leave Congress, not that I approved his behavior or attitudes. If we can still register empathy, maybe we won't turn into freeperized beings.

By the way, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, God rest his soul, died after a burst appendix. He was in retirement at that point, though. I hope HRC's either already had hers out or is monitoring the living daylights out of every symptom. We don't want anything happening to the senator who holds that seat!

86. Well, I admit that I've exulted in others' political destruction
when it was deserved. I'll be damned happy if we rip some Republicans apart in the next election cycle, particularly the junior Senator of Pennsylvania. But I don't really wish physical suffering or undue emotional agony on anybody.

Another example: as despicable a figure as he was back then, the CBS footage of George Wallace being shot again and again at close range is truly brutal, painful to watch.

And of course, it's hard not to feel a little sorry for Gerald Ford, thrust into the presidency immediately after Nixon with little preparation.

Aw, fuck, I'm a bleeding heart liberal. I admit it.

101. Yeah, I think it changed him, much as paralysis changed Roosevelt
I've read that Roosevelt was considered a fairly shallow young aristocrat, before he was stricken with polio and apparently gained new perspective on life.

Aside from Wallace's professed change, it's kind of hard to continue to hate a man who effectively paid his dues in suffering. Wallace was paralyzed from the waist down and lived the rest of his life in constant excruciating pain. His political career was temporarily destroyed and both his current and subsequent marriages collapsed. The course of his own life served to punish him, and perhaps even save his soul, if we are indeed judged beyond the grave.

and I've spoken often with those who do recall. I've seen an unbelievable amount of archival footage too.

Ford was unique in that he was targeted by women. I thought he seemed like a bizarre choice for potential assassins, since he was so bland and uncontroversial.

Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 01:45 PM by Gman
The right wing is capable of literally anything. Poisoning is unlikely, but can never be ruled out. The right wing is probably more afraid of Hillary than anyone else in the Democratic Party right now. They know she would win the presidency in a walk. They will do anything necessary to stop her.

Many were highly upset that she was making this speech thinking it was about abortion. If they'll burn down and sniper-kill people over abortion, they would definitely poison Hillary.

The Story of a Truly Contaminated Election
Columbia Journalism Review/Jan/Feb 2001
By Lawrence K. Grossman

<snip>

The only proven incident of bioterrorism the United States has ever experienced, we learned, was a bizarre plot by the Rajneeshees, a religious cult, to steal a county election in Oregon in 1984. The Rajneeshees, followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, a self-proclaimed guru exiled from India, had moved into a ranch in rural Wasco County, taken political control of the small nearby town of Antelope, and changed its name to Rajneesh. Next, the cult sought to run the whole county by winning the local election in 1984.

The amazing story of the Wasco County election scandal was revealed to the conference's riveted participants by Leslie L. Zaitz, an investigative reporter for The Oregonian, and Dr. John Livengood, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control. To win the county election, the Rajneeshees planned to sicken a good portion of the population in the town of The Dalles, where most Wasco County voters live. Their weapon of choice to keep local residents from voting was salmonella bacteria. Cult members decided to test the use of salmonella and, if successful, to contaminate the entire water system of The Dalles on Election Day. First, the Rajneeshees poisoned two visiting Wasco County commissioners on a hot day by plying them with refreshing drinks of cold water laced with salmonella. Then, on a shopping trip to The Dalles, cut members sprinkled salmonella on produce in grocery stores "just for fun." According to reporter Zaitz, that experiment didn't get the results they wanted so the Rajneeshees proceeded to clandestinely sprinkle salmonella at the town's restaurant salad bars. Ten restaurants were hit and more than 700 people got sick.

105. Senator Clinton Collapses During Speech
http://www.ny1.com/ny/TopStories/SubTopic/index.html?topicintid=1&subtopicintid=1&contentintid=47733

Senator Hillary Clinton collapsed while delivering a speech in Buffalo Monday.

Clinton, who is suffering from a stomach virus, felt weak and needed to sit down, and then she fainted briefly, according to her press secretary. She had just begun a speech about Social Security in front of about 150 people in a warm room in a private club.

A doctor examined her at the scene, and she walked out of the building on her own. She did not go to the hospital.

Clinton continued to Canisius College in Buffalo, as scheduled, to speak about healthcare.

--It seems that she's going to be fine, but still it's quite frightening . We've had enough prominent Dems dying lately...

I dreamed that I was going to an island with Hillary, Chelsea and a young man. It was not a bad dream. Everything was just very nice and quiet, nothing much going on. I was surprised by the dream, however, because I'm not an especially big Hillary fan. There was no reason to have such a dream. It was very odd.

111. It's this year's flu - the one we couldn't get vaccines for!
I know two people who lost consciousness and collapsed to the floor while home sick with it. I've just lost a week of my life to it - very nasty - and I have not had the flu since I started getting annual flu shots about ten years ago. I personally thank George Bush and his profit hungry Big Pharmaceutical backers who couldn't make enough profit from flu vaccines to bother producing them. A major complication from flu is possibility of relapse. You feel so totally MISERABLE for the first 3 days or so, that when it begins to let up a little, you may go back to work too soon and then you get sicker than ever.

Senator Clinton has always been a very hard-working person - someone who walks the walk. Not like W who talks/whines the talk. . . . "It's HARD work!"

112. Here's what the "good Christians" at Freakland
have to say:

"For a brief moment, Satan, deep in the darkest bowels of Hell, felt an involuntary shudder, thinking She was on her way."

"What a scammer - she couldn't stand any good press about Iraq and upstaged the news with her own little stunt."

"Could there be a little too much booze? Something has to aid her hypocrisy."

"The Grim Reaper making stealth hit and runs on her. He's gonna have to claim her when her back is to him. Just a practice run. No need to worry."

""...and is now proceeding with her schedule as planned."

dang, for a moment there I was hopeful."

""but revived and continued her scheduled appearances"

Argh! - I hate when that happens."

" Bingo!

Never trust a ClinToon. Everything they do is an act to get attention."

"Or was it that she needed fresh blood

either way Clinton talking about parenthood sent her into a dizzy"

"I think they said she inhaled too much of her own hot air and got light headed."

"I think one of two things happened:

1) Her advance team failed to clear the room of mirrors, and she saw her reflection.

2) Someone asked her an unscripted question, and the shock caused her to pass out."
