Drudge: 'SHE HAS BEEN UNDER COVER FOR THREE DECADES'
http://www.drudgereport.com/matt.htm

A former counter-terrorism official at the CIA and the State Department claimed Tuesday night that outted CIA agent "Valerie Plame" was under cover for three decades and was not a "CIA analyst" as columnist Bob Novak has suggested.

Larry Johnson made the charge on PBS's NEWSHOUR.

"I worked with this woman. She started training with me. She has been under cover for three decades. She is not as Bob Novak suggested a "CIA analyst." Given that, i was a CIA analyst for 4 years. I was under cover. I could not divulge to my family outside of my wife that I worked for the CIA unti I left the Intelligence Agency on Sept. 30, 1989. At that point I could admit it. The fact that she was under cover for three decades and that has been divulged is outrageous. She was put undercover for certain reasons. One, she works in an area where people she works with overseas could be compromised...

"For these journalists to argue that this is no big deal... and if I hear another Republican operative suggesting that, well, this was just an analyst. Fine. Let them go undercover. Let's put them go overseas. Let's out them and see how they like it...

"I say this as a registered Republican. I am on record giving contributions to the George Bush campaign.

Another article says she's 40. Maybe Johnson meant part of 2 decades and 1 whole decade. Like started sometime in the 80's.

16. Not to be too contrary
But Valerie Plame is reported to be 40 years old, so if she's been undercover for three decades, she started pretty damn young!

From the WP expose on Wilson:
"As the world now knows, Wilson is married to Valerie Wilson, nee Plame. She is his third wife. She is 40, slim, blonde and the mother of their 3-year-old twins. In the photos in his office, she has the looks of a film star."

He was in the training classes with her -- where they didn't even reveal their names, just last initials, Larry J -- and he started his work in the '80s.

24. What's not true?
That she is 40 years old? That's according to the article interviewing her husband. If her tenure included the exact years of 1989 to 2003, then she started undercover work at age 25, which is certainly possible, and worked undercover for 12-14 years, which isn't over 30 years as implied, but is perhaps technically spanning "3 decades". Regardless, it doesn't make any comment I said or quoted "not true". My point was that the statement "3 decades" implies that she has been undercover for at least 30 years, when in fact she probably has been doing so for about half that time at most. It doesn't matter one whit in the substance of the story, I am just pointing this out for accuracy sake.

21. Had a thought (hah! see, it happens sometimes!)
Congress should tie a demand for an independent investigation into TraitorGate to the very first penny of the $87 billion Herr Chimp has requested.

After all, this is connected - the money is allegedly for Iraq, which needs to be rebuilt after BushCo illegally invaded that country based on lies, one of which was the Niger "yellow cake" hoax, which of course led us to where we are today.

You want any more money, motherfuckers, then you pay the piper and hand over the political sniper. Word.

26. Memory Lane: an event in Poppy's presidency
Anyone remember this: Richard Nixon was extremely concerned about the struggles Russia was going through after the fall of the Soviet Union. He raised the issue that it was critical to help, and that it was likely that impoverished scientists and military would be tempted to sell WMDs to terrorists. He wrote an open letter to Poppy Bush, and had it published in Time. He criticized Poppy for his lack of initiative at this important juncture of history, and warned it could have repercussions for decades.

Plame would have been operating during Poppy's adminstration.

I wonder if, like her husband, she was finding things that smirky and Darth Cheney did not want her to find, or else was not telling them what they wanted to hear. Might be another motive to end her career and compromise all her work and contacts.

Rush and the others going off about how "she's just an analyst..." so all-of-the-sudden, of course, they're all experts on CIA policy and laws pertaining to national security.

This is what I love about the right's obsession with liberal celebrities, and their assertion that they should just "Shut up!" since they "...don't know dick about anything but acting/singing." Now here, we have Limbaugh going on about something he obviously knows nothing about, making an ass of himself while basking in his own ignorance yet... that's fine! Sheesh!

C'mon, there must be a few "seminar callers" ( :eyes: ) here, on DU. Hope one of them gets on and causes him to loose it again (when one gets past his screeners, it almost makes him worth listening to).

34. CNNI has been quoting Novak himself as calling her an 'operative'
from the start.

I know he's just trying to muddy up the issue for his readers to cover his sorry butt. However, his use of the word "operative" is already out there on CNNI, using Novak's own writing, in quotes. He knew Palme was a spy, and he probably knew she was a career spy.

Novak is a traitor to our country. Blaming this on partisan politics only helps him to dig his hole deeper. It's hard to believe this guy has received so much media exposure over so many years.

Why doesn't he spend the remainder of his shortened "journalistic" career outing Cheney? At least he'd be doing a service to the country rather than sticking a knife into its national security.

As I've said to many of my friends, the rightwing whackos are the meanest, most unpatriotic people you could ever hope to meet.

36. Twisted Logic

Tonight I heard over and over from Republicans that the Justice Department career people were completely competent to handle this. The kept saying "alleged" before everything - the operative, the white house leaker, etc. I was angry that the questions on cable were focused on whether the democrats are playing politics - we want an independent investigator now, but didn't want one for Clinton - double standard....

No one made my point, which is this -

Wilson says he believes the outing was done primarily not to hurt him/his wife but rather to stop others (I assume CIA) from questioning/coming forward/speaking out. Okay, motive is to chill dissent.

So now we are to believe that a poor career Justice department lawyer with a spouse and children to feed at home will be courageous enough to investigate this and stand up to the likes of the republican party, the bush administration and the conservative media? Right.

That is why an independent prosecutor is needed.

Is Drudge forgiven now that he is pushing a story critical of Bush, or will it be back to business as usual the next time he runs something unflattering to a democrat ?

Myself I am from the "don't shoot the messenger" school. I always found it tiresome wading through dozens of posts damning Drudge as a republican lackey in any thread involving one of his links, and few if any posts at all discussing, confirming or disproving his story.

If you recall he hit the DUI story hard before the 2000 election too.

He doesn't always hit the mark with his shuriken, but he knows how to throw.

As a journalist I think he's a right-leaning schmuck who's waaaaay too fast on the trigger to have any credibility, but that said he has been more active in scoop-hunting than anyone in the mainstream media. And whether or not we like what happened to Clinton, he is the man who broke the story.

49. Novak's column in todays Post lies again: Wilson contributed to Gore
In fact as someone posted here:

On CNBC Capitol Report they just pushed Wilson on the $1000 Kerry
donation
and he came back with, 'No, it was $2000, in two $1000 payments'; then
he went on to say that what Ed Gillespie also knew but didn't tell
anybody, was that Wilson also donated $2000 to Bush/Cheney in 2000! But
that he would not be supporting aWol this time because of their war and
peace blunder!"
Which is significant, in light of the facr that he insists "that's what prompted him to figure out why was he chosen for the mission"
Good research, Nofacts!

to believe that the WHorehouse and Repugs not wanting a special investigation only means one thing.

Someone (maybe several people) will go down for this, BUT it will only be puppets not puppeteers(sp?).

I want to have faith in Wilson as he seems one smart cookie and has kept the info pretty close to the chest, but knowing these slimballs and how they do biz...I believe they will hand over peeps who will not affect this admin one way or the other.

More pawns thrown to the press, not the players. Let's hope my feelings are 100% inaccurate!
