Turkey's Cabinet Approves Troops for Iraq

ANKARA, Turkey -- Turkey's Cabinet agreed Monday to send troops to Iraq to help stabilize the country -- a decision that could relieve U.S. operations in Iraq and help Turkey mend frayed relations with the United States.

But the decision must be approved by Parliament, where many oppose any deployment. Lawmakers are likely to vote this week.

If the deployment is approved, Turkey would become the first predominantly Muslim nation to contribute troops to Iraq.

There was no information on how many soldiers the government plans to send. However, government officials have said the United States requested some 10,000 troops.

So even our paying the Turks cost plus 50% profit on their rent a army will not get get this passed, if no UN resolution.

5. Yep, the turks won't get any further south than the 1st orig no fly zone

The US just sold out the kurds in a big, bloody way. Had to. It takes 1/3 of the prob away from the US, guarantees that someone else will have to guard the halliburtan oil pipeline workers in Kurdistan, and gets the oil into Turkey.

I guess plan B will be how to get the turks out once the US figures out how to control the rest of iraq.

Disgusting.

If any of your Kurdish friends have recently borrowed any of your CDs. You can kiss that music goodbye. Selling Kurds in to death is a Bush family tradition (just in time for the holidays).

That's where the US bid was lost before the invasion- controversially due to a lack of the required plurality- it passed but with less than a majority of members approving.
