Democratic chairman mulls sponsor logos for presidential primary
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The advertising executive now running South Carolina's Democratic Party sees corporate logos on ballots as one way of helping his cash-strapped organization put on the first-in-the-South presidential primary.

Chairman Joe Erwin says he plans to seek corporate sponsorships to help raise $500,000 to hold the Feb. 3 primary.

"Some statewide corporation may want their company identified with democracy," Erwin said.

Erwin says the party has raised about $220,000 in gifts and pledges since he took office in May, but nearly half of that is needed just to keep the party's headquarters open and to cover payroll.

If this twit gets his way the sell off of democracy to corporations will now carry the official state imprimatur. What next the selling of luxury boxes in the state house so the corporados can have a front row seat to watch their bought and paid for state legislators in action?

It sucks that they have to pay for their own primary. It is unfair, because whichever party has a sitting president has an advantage in that they don't have to pay for this.

Putting that corporate brand right up front for all to see who has bought him. Unlike most other candidates, who rarely publicly acknowledge how much they are bought and paid for.

They rail against corporate money in politics, but they did not complain when corporate money donated to the RNC was used to finance Nader's ads in 2000.

9. Politicians, golfers and race car drivers
I think all pols, regardless of party affiliation should be made to wear the corporate logos of their top 20 bribers, er... "contributors."

Putting corporate logos on ballots is a small step in that direction, so why not? Everything's for sale in America anyway, so why not space on ballots? A nice, tasteful Diebold logo would be ever so appropriate.

And, of course, operators are always standing by.

13. The Art Guys did it first!
(In Houston, too.) Michael Galbreth & Jack Massing have a history of odd art projects. Todd Oldham made a couple of nice suits & they sought sponsors. Each contribution bought an embroidered patch. The Art Guys wore the suits at all public appearances for a year so the sponsors would get their money's worth.
