U.S. Iraq Resolution Looks Unlikely at U.N.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States and Britain are making a last-ditch effort to overcome strong U.N. opposition to a U.S.-drafted resolution on Iraq before dropping the measure entirely, diplomats said on Wednesday.

Britain, co-sponsor of the measure along with Spain, is particularly keen to get a resolution that would be palpable to the 15 Security Council members and is considering amendments, the diplomats said.

But whether the Bush administration would agree to substantive changes is doubtful. U.S. Ambassador John Negroponte this week told reporters and Security Council members not to expect any radical amendments.

A State Department official said the United States was not optimistic that it could obtain an acceptable resolution, even with additional changes. <snip>

They truly believe the US must go it alone.

And I could tell you where I want the US to go, and it aint all that complimentary.

As either I or somebody else said weeks ago:

"The US invaded Iraq to control it. Unless it gives up some of that control to the UN, a resolution will never pass. It doesn't matter how many articles are written about it."

and heard that they were trying to get NATO involved. anyone else hear about that? the nerve of this administration makes me sick.
