Schwarzenegger Outlines Transition Plans
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 6:26 p.m. ET

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wednesday that he was promised ``a very smooth transition'' by ousted Gov. Gray Davis and vowed that he and his advisers would ``open up the books'' as they begin to tackle California's ailing economy.

In his first news conference since being elected governor, Schwarzenegger reiterated several themes from the campaign trail, insisting that he will not raise taxes and pledging to be a governor of the people. But he provided few specifics and said his transition team will develop a plan in the coming weeks about how to close a deficit of at least $8 billion

Schwarzenegger said he intended to ask Bush for ``a lot of favors.''

``I think he's in for a rude awakening to the fact that he won't be able to get done all the things he has said because politics just doesn't work that way,'' said Fresno resident Don Lesher, 71, a registered Democrat who voted yes on the recall and for Republican Tom McClintock. ``Unfortunately, everybody is voting along party lines, rather than what's best for the state.''

1. BBC take on the Transition and what ppl will expect.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3176322.stm

"The BBC's Justin Webb says the people who voted for Mr Schwarzenegger will soon want to see concrete policies and results from the new governor who has been short on detail and "big" on promises"

..cut..

"Mr Schwarzenegger did not formally rule out tax rises even as he campaigned against them.

That leaves the way open for him to follow Ronald Reagan, who raised taxes twice when he was governor of California."

Oh he never said READ MY LIPS.....

But I see "user fees" going up.

2. Every road a TOLL ROAD, Wilson's additional 2% price of the car tax to
register every year will help..except those that can Itemize their taxes get a big break..so its a tax on the poor. My brother left CA before the 2% tax and paid $2,000 registration on 2 cars and a trailer pr year.

4. Congrats to Don Lesher
I'm sure many will be appalled to see a registered Dem voting for the recall & Tom McClintock but I totally agree with his assessment: "Unfortunately, everybody is voting along party lines, rather than what's best for the state." BINGO! You get the prize, Mr. Lesher.

I was especially struck last night when I heard that 53% (that's about right) in exit polls said that McClintock was the best qualified candidate but he only got 13% of the vote. Now, I might think he's most qualified and still not what's best for the state, but some of that other 40% must believe he's also what's best for the state and they are the ones I wish would vote their conscience rather than their brain-washed, media-soaked, party-drenched official line. Mr. Lesher sounds like a man of conscience and while we would have disagreed as to our votes, I salute him and am proud to share a party with him.

5. what will probably happen
will be that the best republican economic and political guys will be drafted and sent down to California.

They will make it a shinning light of good Republican rule right in the middle of what is now the central Democratic Party stronghold.

I think I saw Milton Friedman had endorsed Gropernator.

This gives them a good oppotunity to do some of this cultural engineering they are so keen on.

Damn, Damn, Damn.

(My depressing thought for the day)

It might be a good idea for Gropernator to fail miserably. Not for California it wont be, but for the rest of the planet.

7. Kinda like they've done
for the Country. There are no such thing as the "best republican economic and political guys" who will ever do anything to benefit the People.
