Gephardt Gets 16th Union Endorsement

WASHINGTON Oct. 8 — Democratic presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt won the backing of his 16th labor union Wednesday.

The Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union, which represents 120,000 workers, said it would back the Missouri congressman because of his commitment to American workers.

Union president Frank Hurt called the effort to defeat President Bush "the most important thing that any working person can ever do because of his policies that favor the corporations and the rich."

The union has about 2,000 members in Iowa, which is holding presidential caucuses on Jan. 19. Gephardt called the number significant, saying he would need about 30,000 votes to win in Iowa. "If I can just turn out the union supporters, then we'll be close to that number," he said.

For tirelessly fighting to support working Americans and their families, I believe Dick Gephardt has earned the vote of every single one of us.
As for the poster to whom I won't directly respond, sorry sucker. Unions do more to get their supporters to the polls than any other group within the Democratic party. If you think the Unions have no power, then you think the Democrats have no power.

it's become kind of a discussion-stopper, however valid the issue is.

Every candidate has an equivalent of the "Rose Garden." It's like if every time someone mentioned Kucinich, people were to talk about his abortion flip-flop. That's a totally valid issue for some people, but those people don't find it necessary to bring it up every single time.

yesterday someone said I only post pro-Dean & anti-Clark articles which is not true.

the fact of the matter is that I have Google News (search parameter = "Howard Dean") bookmarked and I post whatever articles come up that haven't already been posted.

Most often those articles are focused on Dean, but occasionally he'll just be mentioned and the article will focus on another candidate.

I don't discriminate in terms of what I choose to post, and I don't always agree with the content of the articles.
