FBI revokes local Arab-American leader`s awardDEARBORN -- FBI officials have decided to take back an award that was to be presented this week to local Arab-American leader Imad Hamad.
Hamad, director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, said he was to receive the FBI's Exceptional Public Service Award along with Madeline Sweeny. Sweeny was a flight attendant United Airlines Flight 93 who called police on Sept. 11, 2001, and told them terrorists had hijacked her plane before it crashed into the World Trade Center.
The FBI said in a statement Wednesday the FBI was rescinding Hamad's award because of upcoming deportation proceedings against an associate of Hamad's.
However, Hamad believes the award was taken back because of articles written by a pro-Israeli columnist, who called Hamad a supporter of terrorism.
