New Guantanamo Arrests May Be Imminent
Investigators are searching for security breaches at the U.S. prison for terror suspects, officials said Thursday at the camp where espionage charges have heightened tensions.
There were indications that more arrests were possible. A Pentagon official said a member of the Navy working at Guantamano was being closely watched. A lawyer for some of the detainees and a former U.S. intelligence officer said two arrests were imminent. The sources spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

1. This is very disturbing...
the atmosphere's becoming more menacing, with the infererence that even your next door neighbor could be working with Al Qaeda.

Common sense suggests to me that we're talking about whistleblowers.

3. very unsettling
"A second translator, Senior Airman Ahmad I. al-Halabi, was already under investigation for allegedly making anti-American statements before he arrived at Guantanamo. He is now charged with espionage and aiding the enemy."
....snip

"You can have the most secure cells and an isolated military base, but if you don't control the people who come onto the base, you have a serious problem," Matt Levitt, a terrorism analyst and senior fellow at the Washington Institute, said by telephone"

.....snip

New leaflets at the base warn troops to watch what they say. Soldiers who a month ago would start up conversations with translators said they no longer do so.

"Now, you think twice about what you do," said Army Sgt. Jovani Barber, 24, of the U.S. Virgin Islands, who has been guarding detainees for two months.

:wtf: I don't even know what to say. This entire article is beyond belief......

6. When this story first broke I had a feeling...
..That it would turn out to be other than actual espionage. I seriously think it was just something humanitarian going on. Armed forces personnel working there are probably under extraordinary pressure. Not that it excuses the torture going on.

7. Looks like ...
the boys gaurding the prisoners down there are realizing that the prisoners are being treated unfairly.

I do believe that the espionage is nothing more than whistleblowers trying to reveal the horrors that are being committed against these people.

I become more and more ashamed at our actions every single day.

Cheers
Drifter

8. Which Democratic candidates have pledged to free the people there?

I have not been able to find where any of them has spoken in depth about this issue.

10. They're not gonna do it
because those are not American citizens being detained. Sorry to be cynical but none of the democratic candidates are going to pledge to free the Guantanamo Bay detainees. They (the candidates) have to pander to the vast majority of Americans who somehow think they are safer because a bunch of foreign towel heads are being locked up without charges, without access to a fair trial.
