Mountain May Be Named for Schwarzenegger
TBILISI, Georgia -- Arnold Schwarzenegger, who scaled to the top of California politics, could now get a mountain named after him in the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

But there's a catch: To receive the honor, the governor-elect of California must visit the country, a representative of Georgia's president said Friday.

The government of Georgia sent Schwarzenegger a letter of congratulations and an invitation to visit the country, said Temur Shashiashvili, who is President Eduard Shevardnadze's representative in western Imertia region.

Georgia, which borders Russia and Turkey, invited Schwarzenegger to visit in the past, but the actor-turned-politician was unable to make it, Shashiashvili said. At the time, the government planned to name the mountain in the Caucasus range in his honor.

7. Yes, look at it has produced.
Come on--you can't knock a country just because you don't like Arnold Schwarzenegger's politics.

Did you know that Marie Antoninette, Sigmund Freud, Christian Doppler and Joseph Plulitzer are all Austians?

Austria has produced some of the worlds finest musicians such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johan Strauss, The Trapp Family.

Famous screenwriter and producer (Some Like It Hot and The Appartment) Billy Wilder is from Austria. Director Fred Zinnemann was also born in Austria. He directed 45 films including "The Day of the Jackel", "A Man for All Seasons" and "Oklahoma"

And who could ever forget Rudi Gernreich the creator of the topless swimsuit in the 1960's.

8. WHY?
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 12:34 PM by Angel_O_Peace
"Now, congratulating him on his win, we are again inviting him to visit us. And we hope that it will happen," Shashiashvili said. "We want to establish close contacts with California."

To what end is it important for Georgia to establish close contact with California?

Why would a governor of a US state make a "diplomatic" visit to a foreign country, especially one that is in such a prime geopolitical position? And I call it "diplomatic" as AS would be visiting as the governor of CA.

Would AS be spending CA money to make such a trip?

Why would AS leave CA when he has so many other more important CA issues to deal with?

It will be interesting to see if AS chooses to make this trip, when he has stated that the people and problems of CA are his priority for the length of his term.

Something smells of BushCo here. :wtf:
