FCC seeks more data on News Corp.'s DirecTV deal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) — The Federal Communications Commission on Friday said it would need more time and information to review News Corp.'s $6.6 billion plan to take control of DirecTV, a unit of Hughes Electronics.

In a letter to lawyers for the companies, the FCC said it was stopping its 180-day clock on considering the deal that would give News Corp. 34% ownership of Hughes and control of the No. 1 U.S. satellite broadcaster.

3. In other words, there's an election coming up next year.
You wanna make a billion, you gotta pay a million. It's not a bribe, it's a 'campaign contribution'.

4. or... there is an election next year - and the FCC already pushed
too far on their attempts to further deregulate media, and the perception of blindly accepting this deal might actually bounce back on bush - can't have that in an election year.

6. interesting
I have DirecTV, and the minute the sale goes through I'm pulling the plug and going back to cable. I refuse to put money in that bastard's pocket so he can continue to propagandize the world.

7. Do it now -- boycott Direct TV.
Call me pollyanna, but we switched to Dish TV when I heard Murdoch wanted to buy Direct... I really believe that if every left leaning Direct subscriber did this NOW, the offer might be taken off the table. I can dream, right?

PLUS, Dish has Worldlink TV and FreeSpeech TV - neither of which is available on Direct.

Check them out - http://www.worldlinktv.org/

Call Dish... they'll set you up for free and beat Direct TV's prices too.
