Microsoft Issues Patches For Software Flaws In Security Bulletin

Microsoft on Wednesday issued two security bulletins that fix seven security flaws, five of which the software maker ranked as critical, its most severe rating. It's the first round of security bulletins issued under Microsoft's new policy of releasing patches on a monthly schedule whenever possible.

Microsoft disclosed five Windows vulnerabilities, four of which are ranked critical and would allow the execution of remote code.

• MS03-047: Vulnerability in Exchange Server 5.5 Outlook Web Access could allow cross-site scripting attack (828489)

• MS03-046: Vulnerability in Exchange Server could allow arbitrary code execution (822363)

• MS03-045: Buffer overrun in the ListBox and in the ComboBox Control could allow code execution (824141)

• MS03-044: Buffer overrun in Windows Help and Support Center could lead to system compromise (825119)

• MS03-043: Buffer overrun in Messenger Service could allow code execution (828035)

• MS03-042: Buffer overflow in Windows Troubleshooter ActiveX Control could allow code execution (826232)

• MS03-041: Vulnerability in Authenticode Verification could allow remote code execution (823182)

Four critical security updates for XP alone today. Needless to say, I updated earlier.

...you'll be enslaved to this ridiculous patching regimen forever. And the patches somtimes appear weeks after Microsoft is alerted to vulnerabilities.

Last year I switched my professional work to an Apple laptop (although I keep a Windows machine for the hell of it - games, mainly.). The Mac's a lot easier to run and trouble-free. There are still ZERO viruses for Apple's OS X more than two years after its introduction, versus between 60-70,000 for Windows...

This has been the week from hell techno wise... First my primary laptop blew the motherboard due to a power surge and a nonfunctional durge protector.

Then, after countless hours of trying to load software, back up and reload the data from my old hard drive, and trying to get antiviral software updated when simply connecting to the internet infected me, then trying to clean and get the firewall working again..... I found out I have six hours worth of microsoft windows xp critical updates I have to download....


This is so much shit.....

Voltaire99 and other Mac users, a question: years ago I used windows emulating software on a mac in order to run some windows only programs. It sucked.... Given all the mac improvements since then, how do you deal with this issue now and has that improved?
