Democrats seek assessment of damage caused by outing of US CIA agent

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Leading Democrats sent a letter to the US agency tasked with safeguarding America's intelligence capability, seeking an immediate assessment of the damage caused by the outing of a CIA agent's identity.

Top Democrats in the US Senate, including Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, asked the National Counterintelligence Executive headed by Michelle Van Cleave to undertake an immediate review of whether US intelligence has been compromised by the leak.

"The exposure of one of America's undercover intelligence officers by an official of the US government constitutes the most egregious form of betrayal," read the letter by Daschle, and fellow Senate Democrats Carl Levin, Joseph Biden, and John Rockefeller.

"Since this case involves the publication of classified information and the extent of the material disclosed is known, we believe that a damage assessment can and should be undertaken immediately," the lawmakers wrote.

1. Would they ask this
if they didn't know the answer? Gathering more ammunition it appears.

6. They had better know the answer, even if it is just standard boilerplate.
They should have an idea from their own current and former CIA connections. They should have run this idea by some current or former CIA people before sending the letter. If they didn't, it was risky. This Michelle Van Cleave looks like a republican hack to me. http://www.nacic.gov/info/bio_cleave.html

11. The CIA could have asked them to send it
There wouldn't be a way for the CIA, as part of the admin, to get it out if it wasn't requested from outside. Justice sure wouldn't ask if it's damaging.

14. And then, CALL YOUR CONGRESS-CRITTER about it!!! FOR FREE!!!
The TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard number is ...

1 (800) 839 - 5276.

Call it, first thing in the morning, and you can be transfered, FREE, to anybody's office on the Hill, House and/or Senate.

DEMAND A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR!!!!! And don't be afraid to call rethugs and demand it of them. They're all in on the stonewalling for now, which is why THEY need to be targetted for verbal hammering and nagging about this. Keep reminding about the polls. Go see pollingreport.com, I believe, and there's lots of supportive data about how many people want this looked into, and independently.

10. When I called my repug Congressman today, I asked
How many sources had been killed because she was outed, and how we could be expected to get any intelligence on WMD proliferation if we couldn't even protect our own agents, let alone the people she talked to.

The aide said, "Duh, duh."Then I asked for an independent prosecutor
and the aide said "Don't you trust the White House?" THAT DID IT!!

Totally clueless about national security.
