Bush calculating Schwarzenegger will pump him up

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Pumping up his re-election chances in the Golden State, President Bush today meets privately with the Republican Party's hottest star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who recently wrestled the governorship away from the Democrats.

It could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. In the coming year, Bush will be looking to Schwarzenegger to help deliver California in his bid for another term in the White House, and the governor-elect will be seeking federal help in reviving California's troubled economy.

Although he lost California by a wide margin to Al Gore in 2000, Bush arrived Wednesday with an eye on the state's changing political landscape, as well as the fund-raising potential that could bolster his fortunes next year.

"There's been some interesting changes here in the state of California, and tomorrow, I have the honor of congratulating the governor-elect," Bush said at a campaign reception in Fresno, the first of two fund-raising events Wednesday that added more than $1.5 million to a re-election fund that already totals about $84 million.

2. I think the recall was an anti-incumbant
back lash that isn't done lashing at Bush. And it may turn on Arnold really fast.

6. It's all going to blow up in Arnold's face
Arnold wants to float a $10.7 billion bond to cover the current deficit.

The chances of the voters approving this are zero, which means he's going to have to make some extremely tough choices in order to eliminate the deficit.

7. Bush tries to build on Schwarzenegger's success in California
Bush tries to build on Schwarzenegger's success in California

(Fresno-AP) -- President Bush says "there's been some interesting changes" since he lost California to Democrat Al Gore three years ago.

Bush's understated reference to California's political upheaval was greeted with appreciative cheers and whistles today at a Fresno fund-raising lunch where he collected 750-thousand dollars for his re-election campaign.

Bush said he would meet with Arnold Schwarzenegger tomorrow and "have the honor of congratulating the governor-elect."

Bush was expected to pick up another one (m) million dollars at a fund-raiser later in Riverside. (snip/...)

8. I agree, Tempest.
"Bush wants to ride on Arnie's success". What success? What has Steroidman accomplished?

Actually, I think Bushmeister should ally himself closely with Arnie. Then, after Arnold has tired of his first attempt at politics (which doesn't go away, even after you turn off the camera), Old George will have tied himself to a sinking ship.

Heh heh.
