Bush orders officials to stop the leaks
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/nation/7023679.htm

Concerned about the appearance of disarray and feuding within his administration as well as growing resistance to his policies in Iraq, President Bush - living up to his recent declaration that he is in charge - told his top officials to "stop the leaks" to the media, or else.

News of Bush's order leaked almost immediately.

Bush told his senior aides Tuesday that he "didn't want to see any stories" quoting unnamed administration officials in the media anymore, and that if he did, there would be consequences, said a senior administration official who asked that his name not be used.

An escalating turf war involving Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell has generated an unusually bountiful crop of leaks in recent months, and one result is a criminal investigation of anonymous officials in the White House who are alleged to have leaked the name of a CIA covert officer.

The infighting, backstabbing and maneuvering on such major foreign-policy issues as North Korea, Syria, Iran and postwar Iraq have escalated to a level that veterans of government say they have not seen in years. At one point, the senior official said, Bush himself asked how bad it was.

Note Joe Galloway wrote this.

1. Sorry, but this is humorous:
Bush told his senior aides Tuesday that he "didn't want to see any stories" quoting unnamed administration officials in the media anymore, and that if he did, there would be consequences, said a senior administration official who asked that his name not be used.

er....so sayeth a 'senior administration official who asked his name not be used.' Well... technically its not an "unnamed administration official"

3. How rich and wonderful
A "command" to stop leaking is leaked..........

This could only happen in America!

I wonder though: Does the commander-in-thief's order apply to the leaks they actually WANT to get to the press? Maybe his order should have read: "No leaks allowed without Kkkarl's expressed, written approval."

Also from the article, disturbing but typical behavior from Mr. "It would be a lot easier if I were a dictator":

" Bush's attempt to assert himself extends beyond the executive
branch. Late Tuesday, in a brief, brusque arm-twisting session
with nine senators, the President made it clear that he was not
there to answer questions or debate the merits of his $87 billion
Iraq and Afghanistan aid package. He demanded that the aid to
Iraq be in the form of grants, not loans, as some of the senators
have urged.

Present at the session in the Roosevelt Room of the White House
were Republicans Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania; Olympia J. Snowe
and Susan Collins, both of Maine; Saxby Chambliss of Georgia;
Sam Brownback of Kansas; Lindsey Graham of South Carolina; and
John McCain of Arizona. Democrats Maria Cantwell of Washington
and Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana also attended.

At one point, as he discussed the question of providing some of
the money as a loan, Bush slammed his hand down on the table
and said: "This is bad policy."

When Collins tried to ask a question, the President replied: "I'm
not here to debate it."

It is clear that Georgie needs a refresher course in that whole separation of powers, coequal branches of government concept. He views Congress as an utterly superfluos rubber stamp parliament.

Debating issues are the JOBS of the sentators, not to automatically rubberstamp everything you want. And just when the polls were starting to tilt back into his favor!

14. Check out the blame-placing!

In other words, they are saying the leak about the CIA officer was actually a result of infighting amongst Bush appointees, rather than a direct result of Bush lying about the war and trying to cover it up.

Thus the blame is neatly placed at the feet of some lower level functionary without any of the mud splattering Bush. You see who leaked it is not as important as why they leaked it. This is setting up the "why" part - to backstab another official, rather than to protect Bush.

51. This is hilarious, but also interesting.
There are several quotes of what Whistle Ass actually said. That is fairly unusual for an anonymous leak, since the exact words used can help identify the source of the leak. I wonder whether this story was leaked with Whistle Ass's approval in an attempt to make it appear that he is in charge. If so, I think the "senior administration official" was Turd Blossom Rove. If this story was leaked without Whistle Ass's approval, I wonder what the goal of the leaker was.
