NYC -- Water Main Break Floods Harlem River Drive
NYC -- Water Main Break Floods Harlem River Drive
------------------------------------------------------------------------

OCTOBER 16TH, 2003

A huge water main break in Harlem is causing a traffic nightmare along the Harlem River Drive.

There is water everywhere at Amsterdam Avenue and 179th Street following a water main break shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The water level is as high as car roofs, officials say.

Officials from the Office of Emergency Management are on the scene, and police are re-directing traffic.

Both the exit and entrance to the Harlem River Drive are closed at 179th Street. The northbound Harlem River Drive is now closed to the George Washington Bridge, and there is only one lane open on the westbound Cross Bronx Expressway into Manhattan.

They explode all the time. Usually not this bad, though.
