Feingold Urges Troop Withdrawal by End of '06
Sen. Russell D. Feingold (D-Wis.) called on the White House yesterday to withdraw all U.S. forces from Iraq by the end of next year and criticized fellow Democrats for being too "timid" in challenging the Bush administration's war policy.

Feingold, who is among the Democrats considering a run for president in 2008, became the first senator to propose a specific deadline for pulling all 138,000 U.S. troops out of Iraq. His comments also laid bare the rising tension within his party about how to respond to President Bush on the war.
...
In a telephone interview from Wisconsin, Feingold said he has heard a wave of public disenchantment at 15 town hall meetings so far during the August recess, leading him to propose a Dec. 31, 2006, deadline.

"There's a deepening feeling of dismay in the country about the way things are going in Iraq," Feingold said. He rejected Bush's assertion that a deadline would make it easier for insurgents to simply hang on. "I think he's wrong. I think not talking about endgames is playing into our enemies' hand."

6. Feingold
He Is among the list I will consider supporting for the nomination.
He Is a true Democrat. Remember he was the only senator to vote
against the Patriot Act.

4. It takes a cheesehead....
Seriously, though, Russ is the man. I live in WI and he sent out letters asking his constituents to sign a petition calling for greater accountability from Bushco on the war. I'm sure he's gotten lots of signatures (including mine, of course), and this is the logical next step.

Remember that Russ was the only Senator to vote against the "patriot act."

It takes courage it call a pig a pig, and even Feingold isn't facing up to the facts. We need immediate and unconditional withdrawal. NO argument against such a withdrawal holds water. Not one. The "wait until next year" or "phased withdrawal timetable" arguments are all predicated on trying to put the best remaining face on a damned monster. Meanwhile, thousands more will die, and the end result will be the same. Out now, as fast as the transport can be loaded.

Finally! A senator with guts!

Is he the one who did not vote for the war resolution or was it a no vote for the "Patriot" Act?

14. Good for Feingold!
This forces other Democratic Presidential wannabees to either endorse Feingold's call for a date certain to bring all the troops home, or join Bush in more of the same failed policies.

Personally, I would rather have all the troops home by this coming Thanksgiving (it will take several weeks to get everyone out).

15. what about advisors and mercenaries?
Note, this is guessing, I have no special info, with that said...

a big if, but, what happens if the Iraqis get to the point
where they can handle the
dangerous security and police stuff, with the help of 'advisors',
with the US still in the backgroung...?
I predict something like this will go on for years.
What would be the public reaction?

21. Take poll on Feingold's Iraq resolution
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a poll up on this resolution.

It's currently running 55.3% against Feingold's proposal and 44.7% in favor of it.
