Gov. Bush Reiterates Concern About Gasoline Supply
Crude Oil Futures Top $70 Per Barrel

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Jeb Bush continues to urge Floridians to conserve gasoline until the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and the oil refineries along the coast begin operating again.

The potential damage to oil platforms, refineries and pipelines that remain closed along the Gulf Coast drove energy prices to new highs Tuesday.

Crude oil futures briefly topped $70 a barrel and wholesale gasoline costs surged to levels that could lead to prices at the gas pump reaching $3 a gallon in some markets.

The governor said that the supply line has been curtailed because the largest importer, the port at New Orleans, is shut down. He said refineries are shut down and that Gulf Coast drilling is offline.

1. Ha ha ha ha
"Gov. Jeb Bush continues to urge Floridians to conserve gasoline"

Yeah, like everybody's going to co-operate. More like "every man for himself!"

Get ready for gas lines.

2. It's not JUST Gas Prices
My electric bill is SKY HIGH. We have had a very hot and humid summer. At these prices I am terrified what my heating bills are going to be if we have another very cold snowy winter.

Also, grocery prices are insane. $5.00 a pound for bacon? Goods needs to be SHIPPED, which means GASOLINE. Everything is charged back to the consumer.

8. Food and other goods will continue to cost more due to gas increase
$1.50/lb for apples in WA is ridiculous. They are grown nearby. I have noticed all food costing more because of transportation costs.

5. Gas prices are insane now...even in New Mexico
its over $3/gallon in Santa Fe now. I paid $2.73/gallon down here in Las Cruces. I'm a college student, this is crazy. There is no way we can keep buying gas at these prices.

7. So how much in campaign "contribution$" from oil co.s
So how much in campaign "contribution$" from oil co.s, enron co.s, Haliburton co.s and the like did Shrubya & co.s collect beginning with, say, 2000?

Did Cheney's secret energy meeting talk about quid pro quo? we invade Iraq for "contribution$" of ?

The public has a right to know.

And why are these companies, ('cept maybe enron which had the poor grace to get caught in the act) raking in profits like never before AND getting tax breaks in our most recent energy bill AND their top poobahs getting all kinds of tax breaks including estate tax breaks while this nation's treasury goes so broke so fast and we can't even afford medical benefits for our returning vets (or sufficient armor)?

The citizens have a right to know?a

9. I posted some months ago.
that the best thing Bush will be remembered for is buying oil into the Strategic Reserve when it was $55 per barrel (this after he caused the price to rise from $30 by attacking Iraq).

Now of course is how to release it. I should imagine they will screw the taxpayer by selling at cost and letting oil companies and refiners soak up the profits of an additional $15 per barrel.

Socialize the cost, privatize the profits. The Republican Credo.
