Bush says bin Laden threats emphasise urgency of anti-terror battle

BANGKOK (AFP) - President George W. Bush (news - web sites) said that new threats from Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) against the United States and its allies drive home the need to unite against terror, a message he will take to a Pacific Rim summit here.


Bush has signalled he will use the two-day Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (news - web sites) (APEC) summit, which begins under extremely tight security Monday, to shore up regional alliances in the battle against terrorism.


The release of a new audiotape purportedly made by the al-Qaeda chief, threatening suicide bombers to avenge the occupation of Iraq (news - web sites), reinforced his message to Asia-Pacific nations that "the war on terror goes on," he said.


"It's something I'll discuss with other leaders here at APEC. This is still a dangerous world," said Bush, who is also making a state visit to Thailand.

It would be nice if we were fighting a war on terror. I think we are dangerously ignoring the war on terror by being misled to think the terror is in Iraq! The terror is in Pakistan. oops, they are our allies!

At my office, the word was out that it was another 'orange alert'. Everybody was worried...looked around...until the 4th or 5th time. Then they became jaded and paid no attention.
