Terror 'war' eroding liberties - in Middle East

Amman - Arab regimes have taken advantage of the US-led "war on terrorism" to adopt extreme security measures eroding civil and political liberties, a UN report said on Monday.

"One of the worst consequences of freedom-constraining measures in developed countries is that they gave authorities in some Arab countries another excuse to enact new laws limiting civil and political freedoms," the latest Arab Human Development Report said.

1. Democracy in the Middle East would not serve US business interests

There is no guarantee that elected governments in the region could be counted on to put US financial interests above those of their own citizens. In fact, there is little likelihood that allowing these nations self-determination would do anything at all to reduce anti-American sentiment.

2. Now that Iraq has become a beacon of democracy ...

un-democratic regimes all over Arabia are falling like dominoes. All those Arabs have stopped to hate the U.S. and cherish the freedom they once were envying so much.
