Bush Praises Islam as Religion of Tolerance
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&ncid=716&e=11&u=/nm/20031022/ts_nm/bush_indonesia_dc

BALI, Indonesia (Reuters) - President Bush praised the world's most populous Muslim nation on Wednesday for its support in the war on terror and said Islamic terrorists defiled one of the great faiths.

But Bush ran afoul of leading moderate Muslim clerics during talks on the resort island of Bali, where Islamic militants linked to al Qaeda blew up two nightclubs packed with foreign tourists just over a year ago, killing 202 people.

Reflecting growing mistrust of the United States among ordinary Indonesians, they criticized Washington for supporting Israel over the Palestinians and for the occupation of Iraq, and said Bush needed to listen more to the rest of the world.

Bush, speaking against the backdrop of a palm-fringed beach and turquoise sea, expressed his gratitude to Jakarta after meeting President Megawati Sukarnoputri and the clerics.

"We know that Islam is fully compatible with liberty and tolerance and progress because we see the proof in your country and in our own," Bush told a news conference.

1. Apparently Bush didn't listen to Rush, et. al.
Becasue of them we know for certain that Islam is a religion of intolerance and death to which even Satanism runs a distant second.

<sarcasm off>

15. Note he was talking
Note he was talking in front of an Islamic audience. They reserve Gen Boyden for Domestic comsumption.

Freepers and the Rush crowd only watch FOX. Unless reported there, they will never know that their great simian leader ever uttered these heretical words.

4. What confuses me about it is...
...Bush actually said something that was factual and accurate. Time was when, if his lips were moving, he was lying and distorting. Now what am I supposed to do?

8. easily clarified
See Bush doesn't really believe what he has said about Islam being a religion of peace. He is a Christian fundie and thinks it is "false religion". In his mind he is lying. But it's ok. It's just a tactic of the modern Crusades. If you lie for God, that's ok. See? Easy-peasy.

16. I disagree.
Bush is not a Christian fundie, he only plays one on T.V. The only religion practiced by the Bushies is the worship of the almighty dollar.
The Christian fundies are being used and manipulated by these puppet masters. They have been so conditioned to accept without question anything fed to them, lest they tempt the hellfire for their lack of faith, that they make the perfect tool for the repugs...They will vote for whoever their pastors tell them to.
Remember the tidbit about the CIA buying off Islamic clerics? IMHO, I think we can find the same tactic here closer to home. How many of these pastors and leaders are on the dole?

Again, Bush is not a Christian of any stripe. He is a figurehead used to fixate the desire of the bleeting sheep for a leader chosen by God. He is controled by the wolves who prey upon the innocent.

Just my opinion :silly:

22. Yep!
The Chimp is a Mammonist, plain and simple. He uses the fundies for their votes and their sheep-like natures. I listen to fundie radio to keep tabs on what they're up to and believe it or not, they sometimes complain that he's not conservative enough.

He's using them plain and simple. It's a good thing to point out.

What a liar! Then he goes on to bomb more Arabs/Muslims. Religions are created to make one group of people feel special and set apart from the rest. The very idea of creating religion is to exclude others, or condition a group of people so they are all alike--diversity is most often frowned upon and is seen as something to viciously stamp out rather than embrace. Islam is no more tolerant than most religions. In fact, it is one of the least tolerant religions out there when taken to extreme, and I daresay, in moderation as well. That being said, as usual, Bush says one thing and even appears sincere, but his actions suggest he believes otherwise.

14. Extreme in moderation, as well?
Sounds like an oxymoron to me (oxymoran?) Have you ever actually met any Muslims? I know quite a few who are delightful people.

I do agree about Bush's actions. He did well to string the words together but if he wants to prove what he said, he needs to censure that idiot crusader general.

5. How disingenuous of him, though not unexpected
"We know that Islam is fully compatible with liberty and tolerance and progress because we see the proof in your country and in our own," Bush told a news conference.

What horsehockey! Oh yeah, we sure do see the proof in our country, uh, huh. Tell that to my Islamic students who have asked to take temporary refuge in my home when their non-Islamic colleagues threatened them. Also, if * reallu believes this, he shoudl immediately dismiss the idiot that made the statement about 'war against satan'. The transparent dishonesty of these folks simply boggles the mind! OK, I admit it, I am in a foul mood for some reason today.

17. WOW, we can use this...
"We know that Islam is fully compatible with liberty and tolerance and progress because we see the proof in your country and in our own," Bush told a news conference.

Did you catch that?
Is Bush stating that the US is now an Islamic country?
"we see the proof in your country and in our own"

7. But he has an Army General who calls it a "False" religion...
So which is it?
Could the fact that the General doesn't have to worry about sucking-off potential voters have something to do with it?

Meanwhile, Dick "TinMan" Cheney tells another room full of $2,000 hotdog-eating "Pioneers" that Saddam Officiated at Osama Been-Forgotten's last 2 weddings....

Wish these liars would at least all get on the same damn page.

OK, so he didn't say that.
BUT....
He keeps saying that Saddam and OBL were in bed together...
Whoops....
You might take THAT literally, too, won'tchu?

13. I'm really sick of PC nonsense
Islam, like Christianity, has a very violent history, treats women like trash, and condemns all non-believers to eternal hellfire. Not to mention the fact that virtually every Islamic nation is a cesspool that no sane American would ever want to visit.

Yet because of PC we're all supposed to pretend that it's peaceful and wonderful. What a bunch of crap.

finds it once in a while. What he said was right. Why he said it, of course, is another matter. The good thing is it drives the right nuts when he says it!
