23% of Voters in Poll say Nader Should Run in 2004
by Tom Squitieri

Nearly one in four voters want Ralph Nader to run for president in 2004, according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll released Tuesday. The poll found that 23% of those surveyed said Nader should run in 2004; 66% said he shouldn't.

Poll numbers may not translate into votes, but a surprised Nader said the numbers show that "people are looking for alternatives to the Democratic and Republican duopoly."

END EXCERPT

My comment: Nader's ego blinds him to reality. He got 3% of the vote in 2000. He doesn't suddenly have 23% support. The vast majority of this 23% consists of Republicans who know he cost Gore the election. Yes, Ralph, the GOP would love for you to run. You idiot.

1. agreed
as soon as I read that, I figured 3% (at most) of those supporting his running were Greens and 20% (at least) were Reublicans.

16. Absolutely
You hit the nail on the head.

I would estimate that 1% of those polled were Greens, while the rest were Republicans.

3. I really wonder if Nader is who all of the Greens want...
I mean, in her or his heart of hearts, does the informed Green reeeeeallly want Ralph Nader?

I respect the Greens but disagree with them on several fronts. But I HATE Nader. With Ralph, it's always all about Ralph. Egotistical, arrogant, and I suppose one could now add delusional.

8. Nobody wants an ambulance chaser for Pres.
I'm probably a green by nature, but I'm a Nader-hater by design. I'd vote for La Rouche first. I still haven't forgiven Ralfie for the corvair smear, the front-loading washer/dryer scare of anything else this poser has attached his mug to.

12. I know some Greens who want to see someone else run
They agree with me that Nader is a self-aggrandizing opportunist but believe in the values of the Green Party, and want to see someone else run.

24. Nope, not at all. Winona LaDuke would be a more ideal Green candidate
Thing is, with Ralph Nader heading the ticket, Greens made significant gains in every state. His name recognition and egotistical attitude (yeah, like most successful politicians aren't egotistical and arrogant?) gave a significant boost to Green registration and voter involvment.

In 1996, the Green party was struggling to get a place on a third of the state ballots. Now, for better or for worse, Greens are on ballots in 50 states and have passed the Libertarians as the fastest growing party, nationally. This is in no small part due to Nader's efforts.

26. good thing she endorses Kucinich
Kucinich is the way to get a progressive in the white house!

Winona LaDuke

"Dennis Kucinich is a leader with integrity and demonstrated courage. His commitment to democracy, equity, constitutional rights, environmental justice and peace is honorable and longstanding. Building alliances between Indigenous peoples, peoples of color, and communities committed to environmental and social justice is key to building a true and sustaining society and democracy."

"I am well aware that Dennis is not a Green. But, he is Green in his heart."

Alas, he's already taken by the Democrats.

Who don't appear to be anywhere close to nominating him.

4. only half the GOP wants Nader to run? - 50% of the GOP don't want a "edge"
Seems like a low result.

I am sure Ralph and the GOP folks who will finance him can get a better more positive poll.

But if he spends as much of his campaign telling everyone that there's no difference, the way he did last time, that's not real helpful either.

13. I'm not so sure that would work this time
Almost every Green I know is now, after three years of Bush, fully aware of the fact that there were significant differences between Bush and Gore. A lot of them really disliked Gore a lot, and would still have a hard time voting for him, but I don't think that after three years of John Ashcroft, the Patriot Act, the doctrine of pre-emption, etc., that any of them would buy the "no difference" canard this time around.

11. Is there a partisan breakdown?
I would like to see how many of those who said yes were Democrats, how many were Greens, and how many were Republicans.

I would guess that you are right, that the majority of those who said yes are Republicans who want him to take votes from the Democrat.

And I thought he only got 2% in 2000. I know he got his highest margin in Alaska, with 10%, and then (as every Dean supporter hear probably knows, unfortunately!) in Vermont with 7%. Maybe they just polled people in those 2 states!

And pops kids' balloons. All for fun.

But should he run? That entirely depends on whom the Dems nominate. If it's a heavily-compromised DLC turd, then sure. Make things interesting, Ralph! :-)

At least, two-thirds of the voters probably know who he is.

Greens want him to run and repugs/libertarians want him to run. That accounts for the numbers. Repugs aren't stupid, they know votes for St Ralph means victory for them.

36. question from afar re Nader costing Gore
Surely he cant be the reason Gore lost. Less than 50% of voters nation wide bothered voting at all; and if Gore had of won his own state - isn't that usually a foregone conclusion during any presidential election that the candidate will win his (can't wait for a her) state and if he had of let Clinton campaign for him Gore would have won Arkansas as well; which would have put an end to all the following fun and games in Florida and at the Supreme Court.

Rather than bagging the Greens shouldn't you be trying to persuade the non-voting 50% of the population to vote your way.

regards

Maybe the majority of that 23% think King Ralf should run as a ReTHUG, since it was painfully obvious to anyone of discernment who he was working for in '00....

41. I would never believe anything
that Tom Squitieri wrote. He is a Republican shill of the first order not to mention a media whore who hasn't been getting much publicity lately so he had to come up with something to get attention for himself. During President Clintons impeachment which was on the news 24/7 he was front row and center cheering on Ken Starr. He loved spreading the gossip and was proud of being part of the Kool Kids Club. He was a favorite guest on Hardball and Geraldo, who is now on the Faux network.

He's as much a smarmy lowlife as Michael Issikof who started all the Monica's blue dress stuff.

43. Darth Nader
I couldn't agree more emphatically with VaLabor's comments. Nader's runaway ego has cost the world dearly. There are some 9,000 dead Iraqi civilians who would not have been slaughtered if Nader hadn't split the progressive voters. And that's just one example of the blood that's on the hands of Nader and every voter he has duped.

Naderites love to tell people "Vote your conscience." But they HAVE NO CONSCIENCE.
