4. Lauer: "former" Limbaugh: "present."
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 07:15 PM by DemsUnite
You are correct, though. This is cover for Mr. Christie.

(on edit: this also throws a bit of a spotlight on our "former" coke addicted Whitehouse resident. Depending upon the public's reaction, it will either help or harm his image.)

8. not to be thick-headed here
what is the significance of "Christie"? Is it "Jeff Christie" and, if so, what's the connection to Limbaugh?

TIA,
Tut-tut

Jeff Christie was Limbaughs "radio name" when he was in Pittsburgh.

5. it only draws it closer...
becuase you do what they do and reframe the argument. IF IT MATTERS TO YOU THAT LAUER USED DRUGS, WHY DOESN'T IT MATTER THAT RUSH DOES EM?

Plus...Republican's don't have a good sense of TIMEFRAMES
Matt Lauer may have done drugs 20 YEARS AGO
Saddam gassed the Kurds 20 YEARS AGO
The centrifuges were hidden 10 YEARS AGO

Rush is a druggie NOW.
There are no weapons NOW.
Dubya is fucking up NOW.

45. Yeah, but nobody gives a crap
I certainly don't. Seriously, why would anyone give two shits if Matt Lauer did drugs years ago? I fail to see how this is distraction from Lush.

2. Is Matt a liberal?
If so (and if this report is true), I can just picture the freepers coming out of the woodwork to draw attention from their hero Rush....

12. I've seen him in action
He is NOT a liberal. I remember when they were trying to explain the tax cut and had average people describe their circumstances and how much money they would get back. One guy said he wasn't interested in a tax cut and wouldn't help him much in the long run and Matt just tried to convince him it was a good thing. Didn't seem very liberal to me.

But I don't watch them anymore so I can't really say! When I did, though, it seemed as though he tried to give that "tough" look to the Dems.

13. Um,
The report says he bought it 5 or 6 times two decades ago. No addiction, just occasional use a very, very long time ago. It just isn't in the same ball park, they can try but only deranged freepers will think it similar.

36. Not what it says
The report says he bought it 5 or 6 times two decades ago.

Says he bought it 5 or 6 times from that dealer. Now, answer honestly, do drug users only buy their drugs from one person?

15. This story seems like it was completely orchestrated.
Last week, Coulter, Scarborough and the like took to the airwaves to defend their icon, Rush Limbaugh. They downplayed his addiction, repeadedly, claiming "there's a big difference between addictions to medication prescribed to and people who do drugs 'for kicks.' and to 'get high.'" Uh-huh. Rush didn't ingest massive amounts of oxy "for kicks" or to "get high." Yeh. If you say so.

Here were a few of their comments last week, from the excellent Washington Dispatch site:

http://www.washingtondispatch.com/article_6881.shtml

Rush Limbaugh’s remarks about jailing drug offenders is ancient history. “Lisa Bloom, just to put it in proper perspective, what year did Rush Limbaugh make that comment? … When Rush Limbaugh made that statement, it was back in 1995, near the end of the crack epidemic that was ravaging American neighborhood.” (Scarborough)

Rush Limbaugh was experiencing back pain. “acting like this guy was shooting up heroin or even, you know, smoking pot, smoking crack, drinking vodka for kicks, I mean, he had back pain the pain medication he was taking is incredibly addictive. … The pain medication he was taking is incredibly addictive. They spent $100 million a year fighting off addiction charges.” (Coulter)

It was just prescription drugs. “There’s a big difference between prescription drug abuse like this and an addiction to heroin.” (Boortz)

Rush Limbaugh should be praised for doing so well while on drugs. “If this is what he’s like on painkillers, imagine when he’s off them. … Like I say, it is amazing that he can be as entertaining, as funny as he is, and all of this while addicted to painkillers. Whoa. Set him loose once he’s gone through detox.” (Coulter)

Isn't it astounding? And now, they'll point to liberal representative of all that is evil in media Matt Lauer, and say "See? He did cocaine. Big difference."

what's the big deal? how does this make Lauer different from about 20 gazillion other folks? I admit I tried coke a few times in the early 80s--but who could afford it? glad I've stayed a pothead these many (35-40) years!

33. The question is this, however. Did he publicly suggest that anyone who
snorted a little coke be sent to prison for extended periods? The drug USE issue is a red herring, as concerns Limbaugh, it is simply the question of hypocrisy.

That's all I can say. Oh, for God's sake.

I hope all my college friends from many years ago aren't judged for the rest of their lives on the basis of the drugs they tried or the drinks they pounded.

Just tonight on 60 Minutes II, Howard Dean said he's taking a page from Dubya's book; won't comment on his youthful indiscretions.
