Bush's media evasion reveals insecurity: US broadcaster

The World Today - Thursday, 23 October , 2003 12:24:11
Reporter: Edmond Roy
HAMISH ROBERTSON: Among those listening to George Bush speaking to Parliament was American journalist, David Barsamian.

Described as one of America's most distinguished progressive broadcasters, David Barsamian is a presenter of Alternative Radio, a radio program syndicated right across the United States.

He's been speaking to Edmond Roy.

DAVID BARSAMIAN: The speech was full of platitudes and clichés. He could have been talking to an audience in the United States or in any other country. It was very short on substance. It rehearsed all of the evils and abuses of the regime of Saddam Hussein.

What crucially was lacking, I thought, and was quite striking, was any reference to the inability of the United States to find weapons of mass destruction or any of the other litany of lurid propagandistic allegations that it made to justify its illegal war on Iraq.

EDMOND ROY: Was he in some way, then, trying to convince the Australian people?

DAVID BARSAMIAN: He was trying to bring, connect the Australian people with the American people using September 11th, 2001 and October 2002, the Bali bombing, as part of the same cloth. So we are in this struggle together.

1. Sounds about right to me!
We're gonna break through that barrier, though...when it's time to be "re-elected" (ha!), he's gonna have to give some answers, god dammit.

12. Just keep smirking
My fear is that he won't answer ANY questions.
There will be no debates, nor speeches without a hand-picked
cheering section. We'll just see his smirking face on the T.V.
being loved by the masses.

4. evading journalists who may be critical
is nothing new for the whistleass -but it's nice to see it in print

all of his "appearances" have been carefully staged, and the audience throughly screened and vetted

the few times he's ad-libbed answers to questions he ends up shooting off his mouth and hitting his foot

10. It is nice to see it in print
It would be even better if this story and analysis was on ABC News in the U.S., rather than just on the Oz version.

6. hmmm - Don't kid yourselves - Bush is quite happy

. . I don't think Bush gives a shit about what people think

or cares about re-election that much -

think about it, he used, and CONTINUES to use
BILLIONS of taxpayers dollars for his personal adgenda, at the same time putting Billions in his cohorts pockets, which I am sure will give him megatokens of appreciation whenever the American peeps wake up and get him out of office.

Gearge W. Bush has caused 100's of thousands of deaths in less than 3 years, and "used" 3,000 American deaths (twin towers) as his justification to do so

he "almost" got the guy that tried to kill his daddy

He certainly suceeded in robbing Saddam of his country, and among everything else, included his own peoples deaths and sliding them into poverty means nothing to Junior.

He's ALREADY succeeded in his own warped mind, everything else is gravy -

The American sheeples let him get away with it, so he'll carry on and hide behind the "omnipotence" of the Presidency as long as he can.

This has been just one big game to GeeDumbya and his cohorts

Sorry to say,

but I believe that Junior goes home laughing at his own citizens - -

Just My Humble Candaian Opinion

9. I have to agree with you here
I think that this administration was set up to loot as much of the US and world treasury as it could in the time they had in office. Most of Bush's cabal are too old to live much longer and they have made a grab for the golden ring the first time around.

They have made their billions which has set them up for the rest of their lives. The only reason they are pissed about the "loans" to Iraq is that it is really loans to their friends to whom they have promiced the spoils of war.

13. These folks were already set for life
The only motive I can think of is setting their families
in a position of power for all time. Scary thought, that.

11. A-men, dbt! My wife's right-wingiest friend was in Europe...
... on business for five weeks. She is an EDITOR at a respected business journal. She comes from a staunch repug background. In my wife's book group, she was the one who always sided with the Ann Coulter Lib-bashing crowd.

She came back from Germany a different person. She said she couldn't believe the news coverage that she'd believed accurated stateside. She now thinks we're being manipulated, with all the news being "one-sided," that of the GOP.

An amazing transformation. Thank goodness and Al Gore we have the Internet.

18. The biggest protests should be reserved for our "VOTES"
Unless we "the people" get control of the elections in this country, with Voter Verified Paper Ballots....there IS no more Democracy in this country.

Check out blackboxvoting.com.

THIS ISSUE IS THE HUGE ONE!!

19. I believe you are right, MountainM.
It certainly seems that way. I remember reading about the "Dream Team" cabinet Good Ole Bush was assembling in 2001, and EVERY single one of them are multi-millionaires. I can only imagine what they are now. Rumsfeld alone is worth $161 million from his crooked scamming at Astra Pharmaceuticals. Condi Rice has an oil tanker named after her. Bush - well, we won't get into that. Cheney - no comment needed here, either.

It certainly seems that it was a time-sensitive money grab. They probably knew they would go down to defeat with their outrageous plans and motivations, but they were willing to hang on as long as they could.

Cockroaches can be hard to exterminate.
