Rumsfeld Suggests New Agency for 'War of Ideas'
http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=793410&tw=wn_wire_story

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an interview
published on Friday that the United States needs to sell its message more effectively
and that a new agency would help fight a "war of ideas" against international
terrorism.

The Washington Times said Rumsfeld suggested a "21st-century information agency in
the government" to help in the international battle of ideas and to limit the
teaching of terrorism and extremism.

Commenting on a recent memo sent to his senior staff and disclosed by USA Today,
Rumsfeld said the memo was intended to "inject a sense of urgency" into top military
leadership.

Rumsfeld was cited as saying that his goal was to inspire troops and defense
officials to consider what is lacking. He said he hopes they will start asking "Are
there things we aren't doing that we might be doing?"

4. 'War of Ideas' == Official propaganda... nothing more.
what sleaze this guy is. :grr: :argh:

This is nothing more than yet another needless bureaucracy to spead LIES about the what the US intentions are, and to promote PNAC.

It amazes me how repugs are always against 'bigger government' unless it has something to do with furthering their imperial powers.

14. They are working from the assumption
that because they know how to effectively manipulate this population in terms of public perception, that they can - with all of their intentional ignorance about other countries/cultures/societies - as effectively do this elsewhere.

But haven't they already been attempting this? We have heard of all of the money (US TAX PAYERS) sunk into creating ad campaigns, and running media outlets in Iraq (that is to reach neighboring areas as well). But that doesn't appear to be working so well, does it?

~"We need to sell it better" Well how about coming up with better ideas and policies in the first place.

13. Gosh, ASSHOLE, how about just listening to some of the ideas
that don't fit into your narrow NEOCON paradigm....some of them are pretty good and come from career state department employees such as Brady Keisling who resigned in protest after our foreign policy was turned intoo a schoolyard bully joke.

Not "War OF Ideas", he said "War ON Ideas"

they can't compete with rational ideas, so they're stuck with gunning them down.

27. This is actually GOOD NEWS
it means that ALL their PR agents are FAILING to make the general populace accept their views.
And it also means the Herr Rumsfuhrer knows it.

Think of this as resembling an engine that won't turn over.
You can keep cranking it, but the more you do, the less your chances of getting the vehicle going.
