Four dead in China earthquake

The two quakes, measuring 6.1 and 5.8, hit an area near Zhangye city in Gansu province on Saturday evening.

Cold weather with snow and sub-zero temperatures is making conditions hard for victims and rescue teams.

The regional seismological bureau has reported that 30% of houses near the epicentres were damaged severely with one village 90% destroyed.

"Most people slept outside last night. They wanted to make sure their houses didn't collapse on them," a resident from another town told AP, adding that shops had remained closed on Sunday.
