KATARINA KRATOVAC
Associated Press

UJA, Iraq - American soldiers on Friday sealed off the village where Saddam Hussein was born and ordered adults to register for identity cards that will allow them to move in and out of the community.

The New York Times reported Friday that senior U.S. officials believe the former Iraqi leader, who has been on the run since U.S. forces took over Baghdad in April, is playing a major role in coordinating and directing attacks against American troops.

"This is an effort to protect the majority of the population, the people who want to get on with their lives," said Lt. Col. Steve Russell, a battalion commander in the 4th Infantry Division.

Russell said he did not know whether Saddam was directing parts of the insurgency, but the village is the family home of many former Baathist regime members.

"There are ties leading to this village, to the funding and planning of attacks against U.S. soldiers," Russell said.

The operation would provide "controlled access" to Uja, Russell said.

10. Mighty wide brush you are painting Americans with there
but I guess you must have a lot of practice grouping large segments of people together. What other groups do you have prejudices about?

Oh, wow. Since the notorious DU warmonger can't quite splutter out an answer to this latest outrage, he will turn the argument to his poor victim status as a stereotyped generality. Poor me! How could you group us all together that way? Will you take a position with respect to this latest catastrophic consequence of your much beloved war?

9. tikrit
Yes, we invade a country on a lie so we can "free" a country by killing and getting killed, the Iraqis "love" us because we restrict their liberties, we are having great success there--just ask our glorious leader, and our corporations are there to "rebuild" Iraq by making billions from the taxpayers who are footing the bill. Now, I want to know when our glorious leader is going to rebuild America. Shall we gather rose petals to strew in front of him. Will that change things here? I am rambling I know, but something is wrong.

13. The police chief will be dead within a week
"As an example to others, the police chief said he was first to get an ID card."

I somehow doubt his fellow towns people will be as thrilled about this as he is.
