Miller: Bush, Cheney emerge as 'liars'

Rep. George Miller had harsh words for leaders of both parties Wednesday but reserved his strongest criticism for the Bush administration.

...

Miller said he thinks the administration's handling of the Iraq war and the questionable intelligence leading up to it may rise to an impeachable level.

"The president has a very strong duty to do the due diligence before sending American men and women into harm's way. He failed in that duty," Miller said. "We're seeing the president and (Vice President Dick Cheney) emerge as liars."

But impeaching Bush would only happen if Democrats regained control of Congress, he said, adding the current Republican-controlled White House and Congress amounts to "one-party government."

1. Finally a member of Congress using the "L" word!
Let's stop beating around the George W. Bush and say it: "liar liar liar." Respectful words are for respectable people. Got that Nancy, Harry, Howard, et al? Thanks.

4. and I really like the vision in the last 3 paragraphs:
"The Innovative Agenda - a Commitment to Competitiveness to Keep American No. 1" was developed by House Democrats in response to "a growing consensus that America is failing to do what is necessary to maintain its leadership in technology and the sciences," Miller said.

The plan calls for instituting innovative ways to produce 100,000 new scientists, engineers and mathematicians in four years, double funding for research and development, creating energy independence within a decade and strengthening small business so they can continue "contributing to American's greatest innovations."

In a recent speech unveiling the agenda, U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic House leader, said failing to take steps to keep America on top in these fields will inevitably lead to its being overtaken by "new players like India and China."

and as long as no one ever prints or talks about the "last 3 paragraphs" in those articles, it continues to resonate.

23. 'Agenda' will be reply to Bush
http://www.thereporter.com/news/ci_3276002

Congressman George Miller, D-Solano, will give the Democratic rejoinder to the president's radio address today, the first time he has responded to the weekly presidential speech since the Reagan era, according to the congressman's chief of staff, Danny Weiss.
Expected to feature prominently in Miller's response is what he and fellow Democrats have dubbed the "Innovation Agenda."

Unveiled by House Democrats Nov. 15, the Innovation Agenda is a set of initiatives that endeavors to maintain and or recuperate America's position as a global leader in the science and technology fields, foster economic and technological development, and ultimately ensure national security and prosperity, said Miller in a visit to The Reporter earlier this week.

"We can no longer take for granted our position as No. 1," Miller said.

5. Miller: Newsmedia to blame for American's misconceptions of Dems divided
And I think it's DELIBERATE of the media to do this in order to protect the Bushboy where they can.

>>>>>>

The news media is partly to blame for many Americans' misconception that the Democratic party is badly divided on the Iraq war, because they seek comment mostly from what they consider the party's elite, Miller said. Democratic senators like Sens. Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman - who voted in favor of the war and who now can find no graceful way of admitting they'd made a mistake - don't necessarily hold the party's majority view, Miller said.

But growing knowledge that "it's a mess over there," and that the American presence has become the most effective weapon in the radical Islamic recruiting arsenal, has caused a shift in the congressional debate on the issue, Miller said.

"The Democrats are driving the debate on the war now," Miller said. "You have generals on the ground telling you that the American presence is driving the insurgency and that the Jihadists are the only ones over there who want us to stay. Some are concerned that the Army is 'broken.' Some troops are on their forth rotation. They're out of equipment, the desert is eating it up."

13. His point about the media is underscored by the fact
that we're here discussing an article in a Vallejo paper on the DU. This really should be a national news story:

Miller, who represents Vallejo and Benicia, said several issues need to be thoroughly investigated, but that top congressional Republicans have "whittled away the mechanisms" that used to allow the minority party to initiate investigations. He said Congress is suffering from an "infection of corruption," evidenced by recent indictments against some top Republicans.

"A one-party government doesn't investigate itself," Miller said, adding that Randy "Duke" Cunningham's recent admission to bribe-taking is troubling. Miller called Cunningham, who resigned Monday, "a very bad guy," long known for "challenging everybody's patriotism and voracity." Cunningham, R-San Diego, admitted taking more than $2 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators.

"He was on the intelligence committee, and that raises a whole lot of questions," Miller said. "The general rule is to keep people off that type of committee who are subject to bribery."

. . .

"This Congress hasn't held an oversight hearing in five years, but they'll have to this time. These are serious questions that absolutely must be investigated," Miller said.

6. hey Miller! love ya, babe, but two pieces of strong advice:1] small planes
are a big no-no. stay out of 'em.

2] tell everyone you know that you'd never commit suicide, and wear a ratshot-proof helmet at all times.

27. If Thompson is your rep
we must be neighbors! I write that man constantly, along with Feinstein.
I had 4 email responses in my inbox yesterday from Thompson, assuring me that he is doing the right things. There is a planned anti-war rally through DavisMoveOn outside his Woodland office on Wednesday, 12/14 in the afternoon.

We have to stay on them like bees on honey (to put it in a nicer way than I really thought!)

Glad to hear Miller using the "I" word. He's the 2nd one I have heard use it. Cynthia McKinney was the 1st.

LOL, how about exposing the fact these reps are subject to bribery and letting the people know who they're voting for? Of course, that would require local media to do their jobs ---but they're owned by M$M.
