Blanco recovery commission backs federal home buyout proposal

Kathleen Blanco's hurricane recovery commission backed an idea floated by U.S. Rep. Richard Baker to create a public corporation that would buy hurricane-damaged homes, restore the properties and then sell them to developers or individuals.
Support from the Louisiana Recovery Authority came without objection Thursday, though some authority members said they were unclear how the proposal would work and had problems with details of Baker's bill setting up the federal entity, the Louisiana Recovery Corp."
