December 7, 2005
A group of 17 U.S. House Democrats launched a Web site Tuesday to solicit testimony from autoworkers facing massive job cuts at General Motors Corp. and Delphi Corp., saying Congress had fallen short by not holding actual hearings. The site is the third so-called e-hearing launched this year by House Democrats, who lack the power to compel formal live hearings in Congress without Republican assent. On Tuesday the group had posted testimony from dozens of workers, most of them from Delphi, as well as from Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The group said it had invited General Motors Chairman Rick Wagoner and Delphi Chairman Steve Miller to submit comments as well. The Web site will accept testimony through Dec. 15 at
