San Francisco woman convicted of threating Michael Schiavo, judge

SAN FRANCISCO A San Francisco woman has been convicted of sending an Internet death threat aimed at the husband of Terri Schiavo (SHY-voh) and a Florida judge overseeing the case of the brain-damaged woman.
The jury deliberated for three hours yesterday before finding Dera Marie Jones guilty transmitting a threat in interstate commerce.

Jones wrote on an A-O-L message board dedicated to the Terri Schiavo case -- quote -- "IF SHE DIES, I WILL KILL MICHAEL SCHIAVO AND THE JUDGE THIS IS FOR REAL!".

Jones remains free on bond. She is scheduled to be sentenced on March 15th.

Terri Schiavo suffered a brain injury in 1990 that left her in what some doctors called a "persistent vegetative state." Her parents sought to keep her feeding tube in place while her husband pushed to have it removed, citing her wishes and setting off a bitter court battle.

Alright.

If I were writing this thing I would have stressed that (1) Michael Schiavo had spent YEARS trying to find a cure for his wife's condition, only giving up after finding none, and emphasizing that (2) most (not some) doctors agreed that she was in a "persistent vegetative state", and finally (3) it was the parents (and just about every wingnut in the Beltway) that tried to interfere with Schiavo attempting to carry out what he believed were Terri's wishes.

Note to the editor: if you're gonna recap, recap honestly.

What is up with your headline (beginning with the non-quantifiable �some�) that implies activist government is a lefty belief?

Maybe I�m too sensitive. Still, it pissed me off even though we agree on the resulting victimization. Is it too extreme to want judges to have an open mind that�s grounded in the Constitution?

I�d like to think we�re on the same side, so please forgive me for responding to the non-quantifiable trigger of �some.�
