East N.O. water now safe to drink
The water is safe to drink in eastern New Orleans, according to the Sewerage and Water Board.

According to the board, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals on Thursday lifted the boil-water advisory for all of eastern New Orleans, including Venetian Isles, but not including the lower Ninth Ward or ZIP Code 70117 east of the Industrial Canal. The tap water is now safe for drinking, cooking and bathing, according to the board.

. . . .
Although water in New Orleans, west of the Industrial Canal, was deemed safe on Oct. 6, the Sewerage and Water Board had to fight numerous leaks and low water pressure throughout much of eastern New Orleans. Work on the lines is continuing throughout the city, the board said.

Thanks heavens we're not living in a Third World country. Then we'd really be *ucked.

3. This is Third World
Have you ever been under a boil order?
You can not eat or drink (obviously)and you can not wash (yourself, clothes or dishes) with out boiling water for 20 minutes and you are advised to add a "dash" of bleach. How much? We never knew.
It is not easy. The largest pot we have is quite heavy and when filled with hot boiling water dangerous. You can wait for it to cool. We only had one large pot. I spent my days and nights boiling and then cooling water.
Horrible conditions made worse by failure to act by our government.
One solution would have been (and it should be done now, still) is to bring trucks of water (like giant 18 wheeler milk trucks) into the neighborhoods.

9. You mean like they just did in Harbin, China?
One solution would have been (and it should be done now, still) is to bring trucks of water (like giant 18 wheeler milk trucks) into the neighborhoods.

Funny, I just saw water trucks exactly like you describe on the news, only it wasn't here in the world's only superpower, but over in Harbin, China where there had been a benzene spill that closed the water intake for a few days.

Why doesn't Bush** just do the honorable thing and resign? Oh, right, "Bush**... honorable...". Never mind.

6. New Orleans water was bad stuff before.
The location near the end of line for the crap of half the country necessitated the use of such huge amounts of chlorine that the water smelled and tasted horrible. This is good news, but I still wouldn't recommend cooking with or drinking the stuff without at least boiling it or letting it off-gas for a while.

14. Yes, we didn't really want to drink it before
But, with a boil water advisory, you can't clean with it or wash in it!

7. Buy a portable water filtration system
Product Information
Description:
Concerned about healthy clean water in an age of terrorism and biowarfare? The British Berkefeld® is the quick and inexpensive solution. This portable water filtration system has been relied upon by civilians and military personnel for more than a century for use in situations where contaminated, polluted, or chemically impure water requires effective treatment. From the urgencies of treating drinking water following a biochemical attack, or while camping in the wilderness, The Big Berkey is the world's first choice for producing a reliable supply of safe clean drinking water. That's why, since the 1800s, this unit has been purchased and used by missionaries and relief agencies worldwide.

Unbelievable as it sounds you can actually pour muddy creek water in this filter, and a short time later have clean good-tasting water. How? The pore structure of the ceramic filters inside is designed to remove very fine particles and bacteria. It is ideal for camping trips or where there is no municipally treated water. The gravity feed system also works when water pressure is too low for other filters. It can also reduce fluoride and chlorine in water more than 90% simply by using the post-filter (sold separately). This is indicated for boosting immunity for optimal natural defense against infectious diseases and biochemical attacks.

The Big Berkey only takes minutes to assemble and can provide up to 24 gallons of fresh clean drinking water each day. It is constructed of high-grade polished stainless steel, making it hygienic, durable, and easy to clean. The two-piece housing is portable and can be used virtually anywhere, anytime. The upper chamber is filled with water which gravity feeds through the filters into the lower chamber. An easy to turn "On-Off" spigot is used as the outflow tap.

The Big Berkey's "Super Sterasyl" filters reduce up to 99.99% of particulates, cysts, parasites and pathogenic bacteria including but not limited to Anthrax, Bubonic plague, E. Coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia and Salmonella. (To kill viruses below .02 microns, such as smallpox, simply drop 8 drops of common laundry bleach per gallon of water and filter through The Big Berkey.) In addition to substantially reducing chlorine, pesticides, and herbicides these filters will reduce rust, sediment, and organic chemicals. With filtration rating efficiencies of
98% down to 0.2 microns (Spectrum Labs)
99.9% at 0.5 microns
99.99% at 0.9 microns,

THIS IS ONE POWERFUL FILTER SYSTEM!

the water in New Orleans has not been safe to drink. They are trying to make a perception of recovery way too hastily.
