NYPOST: Defeatist Dems Face White Flag (RNC Web Ad)

DEFEATIST DEMS FACE WHITE FLAG

December 9, 2005 -- WASHINGTON — Republicans today plan to release a Web video showing a white flag of surrender waving over Democrats like Howard Dean and Sen. John Kerry to highlight their negative comments about U.S.soldiers in Iraq this week.
The video comes as Democrats are rushing to repudiate Dean's statement Monday that Iraq is a lost cause like Vietnam.

"The idea that we're going to win this war is an idea that, unfortunately, is just plain wrong," he told a Texas radio station.

Republicans said the video aims to use the Democrats' own words to press the idea that they favor a "retreat and defeat strategy," show that such remarks hurt troop morale, and drive a wedge through the Democratic Party's divisions over Iraq.

...

Democratic strategists groaned that Dean's remarks make his whole party sound defeatist and pointedly noted that when he was elected DNC chairman, he promised that he would stay away from hot-button policy issues like Iraq.

29. Pomeroy to Howard Dean:Shut up
http://www.bismarcktribune.com/articles/2005/12/09/news/state/106702.prt

WASHINGTON - North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy is accusing Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean of overstepping his bounds, saying the former presidential candidate should not give up on the war in Iraq.

On Monday, Dean likened the war in Iraq to Vietnam and said, "The idea that the United States is going to win the war in Iraq is just plain wrong."

"My words to Howard Dean are simple - shut up," Pomeroy told WDAY Radio in North Dakota on Thursday.

Pomeroy later told the Associated Press that he is tired "of the overblown rhetoric on both sides."

"We have young men and women with their lives on the line," he added. "The debate has fallen far short of what they deserve."

Pomeroy said Dean wasn't representing Democrats like him when he discussed the war.

"He is not hired to make major policy announcements on behalf of all the Democrats," Pomeroy said. "As our party chairman I believe he needs to focus on the nuts and bolts of winning elections."

Dean backtracked on his statements somewhat Thursday, saying his assertion that the United States cannot win the war was reported "a little out of context," and that Democrats believe a new U.S. strategy is needed to succeed there.

A spokesman for the Democratic National Committee declined to comment on Pomeroy's remarks.

Pomeroy said he also is frustrated with Republicans who have politicized the war and a recent House debate on Iraq that became heated and angry. During that debate, Ohio Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt implied that Democratic Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., was a "coward" because he called for troops to pull out of Iraq. Schmidt later said her remark about Murtha was a mistake.

"I thought the debate on the House floor was shameful," Pomeroy said. "It was loud, strident and partisan."

Pomeroy, who has visited Iraq three times, said he believes the United States must stay in the country for now to achieve progress on national security, the creation of a stable government and the establishment of a functioning economy.

In 2002, Pomeroy joined 215 Republicans and 80 other Democrats in voting to authorize force in Iraq.

3. Republicans must really think the troops are drama queens and sissies
that their feelings would somehow be hurt by people criticizing the war thousands of miles away, that they then would become poorer soldiers as a result. That suggests that Republicans believe the troops are a bunch of hypersensitive panzies.

8. Will the DNC have response ad?
Or will it be considered 'too negative' if they have one. Let's see how fair the media is with this since they wouldn't permit the billboards the DNC wanted to do against Schmitt.

They can go to hell. Dean's the best thing that has happened to the Dem party. Those assholes (some of whom, including the chimp himself have said the same things) got their panties in a bunch, and they have nothing to prove Dean wrong.

23. It's a stay the course message to people who already believe
it's not going to change people's minds - hell as per the various polls a majority of American's feel Iraq was a mistake and we should leave. Fear mongering and name calling isn't going to change that.

Just remember this when the indictments come through -

32. They just showed it, while commenting on it, on CNN I did really hear...
...what they said about the ad, but it has Barbara Boxer in it too. Personally, I think the clip of Kerry talking about breaking into homes in the middle of the night and terrorizing the children, helps to show a wider audience what they've been lying about for weeks (the lie: Kerry calls American troops terrorists).

When do we start work on our commercial? I say we do one with their words. How about:

Idea 1) Video or sound clips (if available) of these war criminals praising war

or

Idea 2) Video of all the lies they told to get us into this war, and the video or sound clips of investigators who found none of those things.
