BP may face criminal probe for fatal refinery blast

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice may investigate BP for criminal violations in an explosion last March at its Texas City refinery that killed 15 people and injured 170 others, a spokesman for the Department of Labor said on Friday.

"A verbal referral has been made to the Department of Justice," Alan Belsky, a spokesman for the Labor Department said. "It is now up to the Department of Justice to decide whether or not to pursue it."
